When the Empress of Ireland sunk beneath the waves of the St. Lawrence River in 1914, the disaster killed nearly as many people as the Titanic.  Not as well-known, but just as tragic, “Canada’s Titanic” shook lives and the country to its core.  Today in Penny Sized History, I take a quick look at the ship, the disaster and the people it impacted.
