South Korea's run to the 2002 World Cup Semi-Finals was clouded by accusations of biased refereeing to help the host nation progress.  In particular, their last 16 match against Italy caused international outcry as the Italians alleged a FIFA stitch-up perpetrated by referee Moreno.
