It’s 700 years from Dante Alighieri’s death but the lessons we can learn from this poet are still many.

We leave to others more competent than us to illustrate Dante’s qualities; we prefer to indulge on small things with an important meaning, such as the sonnet

Guido, i’vorrei che tu, Lapo ed io – Guido, I would like that you, Lapo and me

Apart from the beauty of the sound and of the words that only the connoisseurs of the language can appreciate in full, the sonnet custodies significant messages regarding the relations of Me with Others, to create Us. Stemming from the amor cortese – gentle love - it teaches to enjoy the company of others along with intellectual discussion, in a way that doesn’t appreciate the others for their earnings (or, worse, for their revenues).

Reading the sonnet, it immediately appears that:

Me comes after You, and is a part of Us: Guido i’vorrei che tu, Lapo ed io – Guido, I would like that you, Lapo and me

The forma cortese – the gentle format - doesn’t emerge from sheer metrics; indeed soon after, the poet repeats the concept: iI vascello che li dovrebbe rapire si muove secondo il comune volere (“a volere vostro e mio”) – the vessel that should kidnap them, moves according to the common wishes (“wishes that are yours and mine”) .

And within the voyage, the happiness pursued in being together, is the happiness of the women, companions of adventure, and then the happiness of all of Us.

We believe there isn’t much more to add; it is enough to sit, read and learn.

Lasciamo ad altri più competenti di noi illustrare le qualità di Dante, a noi piace soffermarci su piccole cose dal grande significato, ad esempio il sonetto

Guido, i’vorrei che tu, Lapo ed io

Al di là della bellezza del suono e delle parole che solo i conoscitori della lingua possono apprezzare nella loro interezza, il sonetto ci dà alcune grandi messaggi circa il relazionarsi dell’io con gli altri, per creare un noi. Figlio dell’amor cortese, insegna a godere della compagnia altrui e della discussione intellettuale, in un mondo che non misura gli uomini dal guadano (o peggio il fatturato).

Leggendo il sonetto, subito si coglie che:

L’io viene dopo il tu e fa parte del noi: Guido i’vorrei che tu, Lapo ed io

La forma cortese non è dovuta alla mera metrica, poco dopo il poeta ripete il concetto: iI vascello che li dovrebbe rapire si muove secondo il comune volere (“a volere vostro e mio”)

E con il viaggio la felicità che si persegue, nello stare insieme, è quello delle donne, compagne dell’avventura, e poi quello collettivo del noi.

Non crediamo ci sia molto da aggiungere, basta solo sedersi, leggere e imparare
