Charity Video Launch, Vegan Taste Testing, Accommodation Support, and New Gamma Camera
18 JUL 2024 · (0:42) Karen Murrish, Fundraising Manager at Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity, introduces the new charity video and discusses plans to boost fundraising participation.
(12:08) We participate in a vegan taste testing event aimed at expanding vegan options for our patients.
(22:22) Discover how the Kernow Accommodation Hub assists healthcare workers in finding housing across Cornwall.
(34:33) We head to the basement to find out about our new Gamma Camera and its positive impact on patient diagnostics and treatment.
eCare Takeover Week
11 JUL 2024 · It’s eCare Takeover Week! Get ready for an inside look at eCare, our very own Electronic Patient Record set to launch in 2025. Â
This system will bring several of our digital and paper-based systems together, giving us the most up-to-date patient information; allowing us to spend more time delivering seamless and safer care. Join us today to hear from a number of different people involved in the eCare program.Â
(0:38) We are joined by Simon McCreary who is the eCare Programme Director here at RCHT. He will be telling us a bit about his background and role at the Hospital, and some more information about the Electronic Patient Record.
(13:07) Over at the Kedhlow Building, Pete and I spoke to a number of eCare staff about what role they played in the rollout of the system and what an average day looks like for a member of the team.
(23:05) We've got Will back in the studio, who is an integral part of the eCare Communications team. He will be sharing with us one of the unique activities happening within the Hospital as part of eCare week celebrations.
(34:00) This week as part of Filipino Cultural Appreciation Month, Febbom Mandawe shares advice for new colleagues coming to work in Cornwall. Febbom also talks about the OSCE exam and how events like the Filipino Cultural Appreciation Month help to highlight common values and goals.

Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response & Staff Networks
4 JUL 2024 · (0:50) The NHS needs to plan for, and respond to, a wide range of incidents and emergencies that could affect health or patient care. These could be anything from extreme weather conditions to an outbreak of an infectious disease or a major transport accident. With us in the studio to talk about Emergency Preparedness, Resilience and Response is our Chief Operating Officer, Robin Jones and the Head of Emergency Preparedness Resilience and Response, Matt Overton.

Armed Forces Week, Emerging Healthcare Technologies Symposium and Active Listening
27 JUN 2024 · (1:14) It’s Armed forces week this week, which is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community. We talked to Neill WIlson and John Clague about their experience as veterans, how they found leaving the forces to work within the NHS and why Armed Forces week is important to them.
(20:25)Â We'll hear from Jaya, the Interim Head of Research and Development at the hospital. In our brief chat, she discussed the upcoming Emerging Healthcare Technologies Symposium, scheduled for August 27. She shared insights on what to expect from the event and how to get involved.
(29:48) We’ll also be joined by Jen and Naomi . The subject this week is ‘Are you listening?’ and they’re going to tell us a bit more about active listening, and some techniques to improve it.
(44:42)Â Rey Pacanza, one of our Internationally Educated Staff Nurses on Karensa Ward, talks honestly about the struggles faced by our internationally educated nurses and the important role that family and community play in the Filipino culture

Estates and Facilities Day
19 JUN 2024 · This week we recognised the 3rd national estates and facilities day by celebrating the essential contributions of estates and facilities professionals, emphasising their vital role in ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable operations.
(1:00) Angus and Jess talk about their roles in the canteen, what’s on offer and what we can expect in the near future!
(7:36) Charlie and I went on a small tour with Barry Manser who is the Deputy Head of Estates here at RCHT. Barry gave us a bit more of an insight into what happens behind the doors of the hospital and how the processes here differ to those at home.
(23:20) Brian Johnson, director of estates and facilities tells us about his role and the roles and opportunites within his almost 600 strong team.
(33:53) Leslie Rust, senior maintenance manager shares his career pathway into estates as a naval veteran and what his plans are for the future of the team.
(40:44) Gardeners Steve and Corinne join us in the studio to talk about their role at Royal Cornwall Hospital and tell us their favourite outside spaces.
(46:50) Eve Tucker's green tip of the week.
(47:38) Ellen Daquioag, Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Eye Unit, talks about her experience coming to Cornwall as a teenager and being one of the first Filipina colleagues working at RCHT. Greener AHPs, Harvey's Lab Tours, 'Aspire' Awards & Filipino Cultural Appreciation Month
13 JUN 2024 · (0:50) - Faith Toogood and Rhiannon Matthews are in the studio to talk about the National ‘Greener AHPs’ celebrations back in April, the recognition they have received recently and to also tell us a bit about the NHS Net Zero Agenda.
(12:10) We'll be discussing the return of Harvey's Lab Tours, formerly known as Harvey's Gang, at Royal Cornwall Hospitals. We spoke with the staff in charge, as well as one of the patients participating and their parent, to gather their feedback.
(19:43) Over at West Cornwall Hospital – we had a chat with the team who recently achieved an ‘Aspire Together’ Silver Accreditation. They will be telling us more about what this award entails and how they managed to receive one.
(27:35) Throughout the month of June, the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust will be hosting a series of events to celebrate Filipino Cultural Appreciation Month. We’ll be hearing from one of our international nurses later on in the show.
