Here are some tips for learning this fun, fast-paced sport.
Types of Squash
Marc Bistricer shares that there are two types of squash: singles and doubles.
In singles, players take turns hitting a small ball back and forth in a game of rally point. The first player to score 10 points in the rally wins the game.
In doubles, two players hit the ball back and forth against each other in a game of rally point. The first team to score 10 points wins the game.
Marc Bistricer shares that players then alternate between playing singles and doubles until one team reaches 41 points or until the time limit is reached at which point they will play an additional match.
The winner of that match will be the best out of three games, with a tie-breaker if it's necessary.
The Basic Rules
When playing squash, there are many different rules that need to be followed in order to ensure the safety of all participants. You'll want to learn the basics before getting started. Marc Bistricer shares the basic rules for squash that you should know:
- The player or team who scores 10 points first wins.
- A match is played over four games and each game consists of three rallies.
- After every rally, a player or team is allowed one point (shot) at the opponent's front wall.
- If a rally ends with an ace (the fastest shot possible), the player or team scoring it gets two points instead of one.
