16 DEC 2021 · Abby’s guest on the season finale of The Sailing Show is Spanish sailor, Demila Tassin who has recently returned from competing in the Mini Transat Race for the first time. The Mini Transat is a race Djemila had been dreaming of for the past five years and we hear about her journey to the start line, the challenges, the highs and lows and what she has learnt from this unique experience.
The Mini Transat is a 4,050 nautical mile race from Les Sables d’Olonne in France to Saint-François in Guadeloupe, with a stopover in Santa Cruz de La Palma. This race has acquired the reputation of a true test of ocean racing and for good reason, it’s a single handed, without outside assistance or weather routing by satellite in a 6.5m boat.

Helena took up Moth sailing in 2018 to complement her training in the Nacra class. 31 AUG 2021 · On this month’s episode Abby talks to two sailors who have had very different journeys to the Tokyo Olympic Games. Her first guest is Susann Beucke from Germany, for which Tokyo was her third attempt to compete at the Games. Susann has campaigned in the 470 class and most recently has competed in the 49erFX class, winning the European Championships in 2020 and going on to win an Olympic silver medal at Tokyo. Susann shares her highlights and lowlights of her long road to Tokyo.
Abby's second guest is Erica Dawson from Aukland, New Zealand, competing in her first Olympic Games in the Nacra 17 class, a mixed crew, foiling catamaran with Micah Wilkinson. Erica’s dream of going to an Olympic Games were initially in the 49erFX but she switched to the foiling catamaran in 2018, firstly as helm, before teaming up with Micah in the middle of 2019 and switching to crew. The pair showed their huge potential when finishing seventh at the Nacra 17 World Championships in Geelong, Australia and they are coached by two-time Olympic medallist Jo Aleh. Erica suffered a huge setback in training five weeks out from the Games, and we hear about the incident, her coping strategy and her experience at Tokyo.
