The Paracast — The Gold Standard of Paranormal Radio

  • June 30, 2024 — Chris Rutkowski with Curt Collins

30 JUN 2024 · Veteran UFO researcher/scientist Chris Rutkowski returns to talk with Gene and guest cohost Curt Collins about the state of the field. Among the topics discussed: the pop culture influences from such cases as Roswell, that surprising Harvard study about the possibilities of Earth-based UFOs, such as cryptoterrestrials. That's a theory originally suggested years ago on The Paracast by the late Mac Tonnies. Chris is a science writer who has devoted much time to investigating and studying reports of UFOs, writing about case investigations, and offering his insights into the broad UFO phenomenon. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Astronomy and a Master’s degree in Science Education, specializing in Astronomy. He was always interested in offbeat things and in 1975 there was a rash of UFO sightings in Manitoba that he began investigating. So he reports that: "I went out with friends and one day I started writing up what I had heard from some of the people that had seen things. I had the article published and soon I was getting requests for more articles and more comments and to give lectures, and pretty soon I was the great UFO expert." Two of his books, published by Dundurn, "Abductions and Aliens" and "The Canadian UFO Report," were national bestsellers.

24 JUN 2024 · AD FREE! Charles Lear, author of “Crashed Saucers and Malevolent Aliens: The Emergence of the Popular Modern UFO Mythos in the Late 20th Century," returns to talk with Gene and cohost http://www.conspiracyjournal.com/ about the origins of more myths in the field, including the Barney and Betty Hill abduction and its possible influence on later reports of alien contacts. Does the profit motive influence some of these claims? Lear also reveals his own views about the cause of the phenomenon, which he refers to as episodes of "high strangeness." And what about that Harvard study that theorized about UFOs from our own planet, perhaps caused by what the late Mac Tonnies referred to as "cryptoterrestrials"? Lear has been writing about UFOs for several years and still finds the subject, and the stories of the people involved, fascinating. Besides his interest in all things Fortean, his pursuits include paleontology, geology, hiking, bad movies, and music. His first saucer book was “The Flying Saucer Investigators."

16 JUN 2024 · AD FREE! Discover more hidden gems and background stories about vintage low-budget movies and movie serials with B-movie guru Brian Walker. He's creator and webmaster of Brian’s Drive-In Theater. Speaking with Gene and cohost Tim Swartz, Brian talks about the Saturday morning sci-fi fare for children on TV stations in the U.S. He'll also discuss the shabby treatment of actor Clayton Moore, whose career as a movie heavy took a heroic turn when he began to wear the mask of the Lone Ranger. He'll also compare the shared experience of watching a movie in a theater to catching the same flick on a large screen TV. Brian's love of films began in childhood with his first Super 8mm projector given to him by his grandmother who also bought him his first film, a four-minute excerpt of a W.C. Fields comedy. Over the last 50 years, he has assembled a film collection from such genres as horror and science fiction, comedy, and action.
