25 SEP 2024 · A little over a year ago, I bought the book All It Takes Is a Goal by Jon Acuff and haven’t been the same since. Life altering for me (and I don’t say this lightly!)
What about the goals your teenager might have? Is there a way to help them pursue their goals? This is what Jon & I discuss on today’s episode.
I invited my teenage son, Hudson, to join me for this conversation. And it was a PRICELESS masterclass for both Hudson and me, as Hudson’s dad, to hear. If you have a son or daughter, it’ll be helpful for you too.
Jon talks about specific things you can do to help your teen pursue a goal and also shares some specific things NOT to do.
Even though this conversation is geared towards teens, adults (with or without) can apply Jon’s positive and practical tips to their lives and goals!

18 SEP 2024 · Welcome to part 4 of our 4-part series on how to approach the upcoming election season without losing your mind (or your soul)! Throughout this series, we’ve heard from different voices across the political spectrum. It’s been an INCREDIBLE lineup!
Today’s episode is the last in our series and I have a conversation with South Dakota Senator and Senate Minority Whip, John Thune.
Senator Thune gives us his advice on how to best engage in politics and what ways voters can be most effective from his perspective.
While he shares that these are definitely turbulent times, Senator Thune believes politics should be less about preying on people’s fears and more about appealing to people’s hopes - which is true whether you’re a US Senator or a US citizen.

4 SEP 2024 · Welcome to part 2 of our 4-part Politics & Faith series on how to approach this election season without losing your mind (or your soul)! Just as a reminder, throughout this series, you’ll hear from different voices across the political spectrum.
Today’s episode features former staff member for President Obama, Michael Wear.
During his time working in the White House, Wear directed faith outreach for President Obama's historic 2012 re-election campaign and was one of the youngest White House staffers in modern American history, leading evangelical outreach and helping manage the White House's engagement on religious and values issues, including adoption and anti-human trafficking efforts.
Michael is a leading thinker at the intersection of politics and faith. His Christian approach to politics can be boiled down to this: politics is a forum for loving your neighbor.
As a part of this foundational belief, Michael says the kind of person you are in politics is just the kind of person you are… and if that truth hurts, it may be time to reevaluate the way you behave (especially if you are a Jesus follower)!
We hope this series provides helpful wisdom and tools for navigating the upcoming election season with grace and hope!

28 AUG 2024 · Welcome to part 1 of a 4 part series on how to approach this election season without losing your mind (or your soul)! Throughout this series, you’ll hear from different voices across the political spectrum. We have an INCREDIBLE lineup!
Today’s episode features a conservative political commentator with News Nation, Denise Gitsham.
Denise brings a rich perspective being a second generation US citizen with Chinese and Canadian immigrant parents. She also has loads of experience in politics including roles at the White House for President George W. Bush, the US Senate, the Department of Justice - all while following Jesus.
While many of us like to keep faith and politics separate, Denise says they can’t be separated for Christians. In fact, Denise feels Christians filled with light and love are the remedy to the dark political reality in America.
During this conversation, Denise gives us a roadmap for how to navigate the upcoming election season and shares some final advice that may make you uncomfortable!
We hope this series provides helpful wisdom and tools for navigating the upcoming election season with grace and hope!
**Disclaimer: At the time of this recording, there had been no assassination attempt on President Trump and President Biden was still running for President.

21 AUG 2024 · If you’re a regular listener to The Conversation, you’ve heard me talk about the International Justice Mission, an incredible global nonprofit organization working to end slavery and violence around the world.
On today’s podcast, I sit down with Jim Martin who serves as the Vice President of Spiritual Formation for IJM.
In this episode, Jim shares about the power of daily rhythms and how these intentional rhythms help fuel our daily mission - something we all need to not just maintain the status quo but to grow spiritually while in the workplace.
Whether you face kids in a classroom, patients in a hospital, cars in a shop or anything in between, you will get practical tools for fueling your vocational passion that you can implement today!
Jim also shares some beautiful insight on a personal challenge he’s facing: when your adult kids walk away from God. If this is something you’ve walked through, are currently walking through or if it’s something you worry about in the future, Jim’s encouragement will bring you comfort.

14 AUG 2024 · On today’s episode of the podcast, I have a conversation with my good friend, Carlos Whittaker.
Carlos is many things (pastor, speaker, author), but you might best know him through his Instagram https://www.instagram.com/loswhit.
Well, Carlos recently conducted a 7-week experiment where he didn’t look at a single screen. Think about that. Literally no screen (while traveling through airports, the tv in his home, maps on his phone… none of it!). Instead, he spent time with Benedictine monks and Amish farmers, learning the art of reconnecting with life beyond his screens.
Listen in as Carlos shares the valuable things he learned and gives us super practical steps we can take to reset our relationship with screens and step into a life of real connection with one another. Note: We also talk about our world being offended!

1 AUG 2024 · On today’s episode of the podcast, I sit down with Rob Roozeboom to talk about how life isn’t fair.
When Rob was 5 years old, he was diagnosed with Becker Muscular Dystrophy, a debilitating degenerative disease. Throughout his life he’s wrestled with God.
What do you do when life’s not fair? How do you grieve well instead of sitting in self-pity?

24 JUL 2024 · This fourth episode of the Rough Cut Thoughts series.
This week’s thought: You’re not that important… but you do have infinite worth.
Both parts are true. You (and I) are not that important. The world doesn’t revolve around us. No one needs to metaphorically kiss our rear. But again, we do have infinite worth.
Which of these two parts do you need to hear? Listen in.
