Matthew Fedoson is our special guest today as he shares his journey of what it’s been like to rise from the early stages of pub poker to transition into the 'real' poker world. It’s not easy to make this transition when pub poker carries a culture of carelessness, victim mentality and lack of awareness around game theory and decent structured tournament play.
Matt came to Brendon for coaching about 6 months ago and has certainly been put to the test. In our conversation Matt opens up about some of the lessons he’s learnt along the way with regards to managing his mindset, health, relationships and keep strong through those downswings and finding ways to love the process that poker presents.

Rising Stars #2 - Adam Agresta
10 AUG 2023 · This episode features Adam Agresta from Sydney, Australia. Adam has been a passionate follower of poker for well over 15 years and last year worked with Brendon 1:1 with some private coaching. He had a burning desire to take his game to the next level and knew he needed some mentorship along the way if he was going to improve.
About 3 or 4 months after their coaching alliance began Adam highlighted his career with a WPT win on the Gold coast. What an achievement – Adam went through the ups and downs of poker but remained strong and optimistic as he built on his resilience and theoretical knowledge. Even though Adam had that result, they both agree that it doesn’t end there.
Brendon and Adam both share similar views on life, poker and entrepreneurship as they agree that life is about constantly being a work in progress. One of Adam’s biggest strengths is that he is able to reflect on his experiences honestly, authentically and with a desire to find areas of improvement. This is a very rare but necessary aspect of a winning poker mindset.

This series will help you if you are also looking to rise up the ranks and need some wisdom and guidance from others who have walked the walk.
Episode #1 of the 'Rising Stars' series features Jake Mehmet. Jake came to Brendon for coaching in 2019 as a construction worker who had a passion for poker and a desire to earn enough money to quit his job and move into more meaningful ventures while continuing to play poker.
Jake shares with us his journey through those early stages as he was challenged by the fundamental and psychological aspect of the game. He discovered a ritual that served him so well in poker that he has used his poker winnings to invest in a business of offering it to the community who may benefit too - that ritual is Float Therapy. Despite that major achievement Joe has been playing and promoting poker for well over 35 years. Joe takes pride in his values as a family man and, as we all know, poker can be very difficult to manage the balance between life and poker. Joe and Brendon also open up on the concept and evolution of Game Theory Optimal and it’s effect on the game. Interestingly, given that Joe has been around poker since before GTO was even introduced, he shared some fascinating view points on what the true crux of winning at poker really is. The spoiler here is that Joe admits that, while the foundations are important, he doesn’t use GTO calculators or solvers. He believes poker is a game of getting inside the mind of your opponent and using those aspects to your advantage.

#14 - Yita Choong
9 AUG 2022 · After a few months break we return to The Australian Poker Mindset with one of Australia's hottest players right now, Yita Choong.
Yita has consistently been making final tables and making life tough for us other competitors over the past few years but in the last month alone he has scooped two major results that has certainly caught our attention. Yita finished 4th in the Millionaire Maker at the WSOP in Vegas for $395k USD then returned to Sydney and finished and impressive 2nd in the Sydney Champs for a further $270k AUD. What an impressive two performances and what a privilege to have him on the podcast to share parts of his journey and mindset.

Andrew, otherwise known as Whitey, fell out of love with the cash game grind and made his transition to tournaments where he managed to score himself a WSOP Circuit Ring Title and $103k to go with it.

Starting out as a pit game dealer in Crown Melbourne, Danny moved on to poker where he was part of the team that began the Aussie Millions and grew it to the impressive international level that it was. He then went on to have a fruitful career with PokerStars, WPT and many other operators working tirelessly behind the scenes and on the floor to provide us with all year round exciting poker action.
