12 FEB 2020 · This was one of my favorite interviews ever. Ann was incredibly fun to hang out with. She was also in my top 5 marketers in my "interview bucket list."
During this interview we got personal and talked about how Ann got started in writing, how she connects with her audience and what she does to slow down.
I have an emotional connection with Ann's book 'Everybody Writes.' We talked about my mom, her struggle with cancer and how the words of a professor telling her that she couldn't write deeply affected her and they became the deciding factor on her dropping out of college.
Ann shares how this professor was dead wrong, and that everyone CAN write and she covered some of the basics that you can work on to become a better writer.
On this show we also cover what Ann is most passionate about in marketing, what marketing trends she would kill, what she would do if she had to start over from absolute scratch, and how slowing down and being strategic with your content is going to be key for business success.

I had a FANTASTIC time just hanging out with him and getting to know his story.

27 DEC 2019 · Everybody knows entrepreneurship is hard - you are guaranteed to go through the highs and the lows.
On this episode of TAG! We talk with Corey Patrick of the Youngstown Business Incubator.
Corey talks about how when your business is at your “lows” it’s their job to keep you going forward and keep pushing you because when you push through that’s when you hit that next breakthrough.
The Youngstown Business incubator is definitely a unique incubator. They focus on growing businesses not just in Youngstown Ohio but all over the world.
They offer help to any entrepreneur - no matter where they are located. In fact one of their mottos is “You can have an effective and successful start up company anywhere in the world - no one cares where it’s located.”
Some of their clients include tech/software companies, 3D Printing Companies, Consumer Packaged Goods, Lifestyle Businesses as well as businesses founded by minorities and women.
They are INCREDIBLY good at helping entrepreneurs grow by providing them resources, helping them with funding and getting them connected to the right people and businesses that will help them flourish.
Corey shares about some of the biggest challenges entrepreneurs face. For most it’s funding. Corey says it has gotten better over the years for sure due to different opportunities for funding that are out there now, but there is always a demand for more.
He also shares that most businesses fail because they are not willing to pivot or they are not coachable, or perhaps they lose interest over time because the business isn’t paying the bills or they are frustrated because they didn’t become an overnight success.
On this show Corey offers advice and tips on how a new business can bring themselves to market more effectively. He also walks through how to do proper roadmapping and market research for your business as well. He also shares about how important a brand is and how a brand can make or kill a startup sometimes.
If you are an entrepreneur and you are trying to grow your business - You DEFINITELY want to work with Corey and the YBI.

4 DEC 2019 · "If you don’t understand your competition and who you’re facing - you’re kidding yourself.”
This affects your pricing strategy, what features and benefits you’re offering and your go to marketing strategy.
The competitive analysis isn’t just to check a box. It is to affect your future plan, and it affects the speed of your innovation. If you have a fast competitor you better be faster.
Jeff shares how to properly roadmap your company to success by knowing your competition, your strengths, your weaknesses and he walks through how to aligning your segmentation, targeting and positioning for your business.
Metisentry is knows as “The SaaS Factory” and they have helped dozens of SaaS companies find success.
Jeff outlines that one of the biggest challenges in marketing a tech company is just understanding where you are best able to serve. Targeting and segmentation are crucial in your marketing efforts.
“When problem solving for a client, do it with their end in mind instead of your own, If we aren’t a fit, we aren’t saving anybody any time or creating any value, its important to be honest with yourself and say Here’s where we fit and here’s where we don’t”.
Be able to say NO to businesses because you may not be their best solution, but when you are, it won’t be overselling yourself and it will be a natural fit.
This is a great episode and one of my favorite quotes from it was:
“If you promise the world to your customer and don't deliver on it, that’s what they will remember.”
