Much of the work of turning traditional campus teaching into more of distance education has been about managing lecture situations and making them digital (Cf. SFS report). Teaching at universities, however, also consists of many other elements, not least various forms of group work. At Halmstad University, we saw long before the pandemic that both many students and teachers experienced challenges of various kinds around group work. To find out more about both students and teachers experiences, a working group (with the eminent name) was therefore appointed, the GOS group, which stands for Groups and Cooperation, which for more than a year has worked together with this theme and conducted an investigation which includes focus group interviews with groups of teachers and students. The project resulted in a report last year. To think about group work and students' social situation in the prevailing circumstances, it is interesting to take as a starting point the situation as it looked before the pandemic.
