31 OCT 2024 · Producer Aleksi Bardy, like most people in Finland, grew up loving the Moomins. When Bardy was a young adult and read Moomins author Tove Jansson’s adult fiction book 'The Summer Book' (Sommarboken), he adored it. Later, when he became a screenwriter and producer, he read it again with an eye to bringing it to the big screen.
'The Summer Book' stars Glenn Close, celebrated its world premiere in October at BFI London Film Festival and its US premiere at AFI Fest in Los Angeles.

Thomas Vinterbergs Families Like Ours is set in a scarily realistic near-future, and follows one family – teenage daughter Laura, her now-single mom, her dad and his new wife and baby and Laura’s first boyfriend Elias, as they have to choose alliances when the entire nation of Denmark is completely evacuated because of rising water levels.

10 SEP 2024 · Frida Kempff’s The Swedish Torpedo tells the forgotten story of Sally Bauer, the first Scandinavian to swim across the English Channel in 1939. Despite this groundbreaking achievement, Bauer never became a household name. After digging deeper, Kempff found Bauer’s personal reflections from the year before her swim in a small regional library, inspiring her to bring Bauer’s story to life.
Kempff, speaking on the Nordic Film Talks podcast, shared her motivation: “I felt I should drag her into the spotlight and celebrate what she did.”
The Swedish Torpedo, premiering on Sept. 12 at the Toronto International Film Festival, is not a typical biopic. Kempff and co-writer Marietta von Hausswolff von Baumgarten chose an artistic approach, focusing on Bauer as a 30-year-old single mother pursuing her dream of swimming the Channel.
Kempff, who has a documentary background, worked closely with Bauer’s descendants to ensure the film’s authenticity. The movie was shot in Estonia to capture the period’s aesthetic, and Kempff wanted her actress, Josefin Neldén, to experience the real conditions Bauer faced, including the cold and harsh winds of the sea.

27 AUG 2024 · Norwegian filmmaker Dag Johan Haugerud discusses his ambitious trilogy Sex Dreams Love: “Three films are not enough to talk about sex.”
The trilogy, which explores themes of sexuality, relationships, intimacy, and queerness, took about 10 months to shoot.
Sex follows two heterosexual men whose views on sexuality and identity are challenged.
Love centers on a woman in her 40s exploring casual sex, inspired by Olivia Laing’s The Lonely City.
While Dreams depicts a teenage girl’s first exploration of her sexuality.
Each film in the trilogy stands alone but is also connected. Haugerud explains his process of working closely with actors and notes the challenges of filming on location in Oslo.

13 JUN 2024 · It's only halfway through 2024 and Danish producer Lina Flint has already had a very exciting year: Her most recent production, Gustav Möller’s Sons (Vogter), premiered at Berlinale competition in February and will start its international rollout in French cinemas starting in July. And she also joined forces with Lars Knudsen and Ari Aster to co-found Square Peg Nordic, which develops international projects with high-profile Scandinavian talent.
To cap it off, Flint participated in European Film Promotion’s prestigious Producers on the Move programme in Cannes.In her deep-dive interview as part of the Nordic Film Talks podcast series, Flint says she sees her career stretching from Denmark to the world, evidenced by all her activity in 2024.
