Experiencing Malpractice and Death as a Physician - with Neurosurgeon Dr. Gary Simonds

Dr. Gary Simonds joins us for a second episode, this time talking all about how malpractice lawsuits work and what they're like to experience as a physician, as well as dealing with your patients dying. I love talking about these real-life, ethics-based topics in medicine and I hope you find the conversation interesting! If these are topics you also are curious about check out some of the courses Dr. Simonds teaches at Virginia Tech. Exploring Clinical Neuroscience, a course providing a good dose of reality testing, was one of my favorites throughout my time in college and I highly recommend it if you like this episode!

Brain Injury Awareness Month with Synapse at Virginia Tech

Synapse is an organization that supports individuals with brain injuries through a strong social support network, raising public awareness, and creating a community of advocates. This month is Brain Injury Awareness Month, and Synapse is doing a lot around campus and our community to help others. We talk about why brain injuries are an important topic, what services Synapse provides, fun things they do, and why you should get involved. Dr. Gary Simonds the Multitalented Brain Surgeon

He is now a professor here at Virginia Tech but besides that, he was also a successful neurosurgeon with the Army, has written books, and mentors students pursuing medicine among other things. We talk about what brought him to where he is today, why he chose to become a physician through the military, what it's like to be a brain surgeon, Shakespeare, and of course fun questions at the end.
