Anjay Rastogi, MD, PhD, is a Professor and the Clinical Chief of Nephrology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Los Angeles, California. Dr. Rastogi founded and is the Director of the UCLA CORE Kidney Health Program, which is based on the CORE values of Clinical excellence, Outreach, Research, and Education. Heavily involved in research, Dr. Rastogi also serves as the Director of Nephrology Clinical Research Program and other multiple programs at UCLA.
Lillian Pryor, DNP, RN, CNN, is Dialysis Program Manager at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Henry. A member of the American Nephrology Nurses Association since 1990, Dr. Pryor has served in roles that include president-elect, ANNA director, ANNA Awards and Scholarships Committee chairperson, ANNA representative to the Kidney Health Initiative Patient Preference Task Force, and an author and peer reviewer for the Nephrology Nursing Journal. Dr. Pryor served as the 2020-2021 President of the American Nephrology Nurses Association. 1 JUN 2024 · In this episode, Dr. Lillian Pryor talks with Dr. Zayna Khayat about where the future of health care is now, the impact artificial intelligence (AI) will have and is already having on health care, and the positive impace AI has for nephrology nurses.
Zayna Khayat, PhD, is the In-House Health Futurist with Deloitte Canada's Healthcare and Life Sciences practice. She is an adjunct faculty in the Health Sector Strategy stream at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management, instructing courses in healthcare innovation and partnerships for the health MBA program. Dr. Khayat also serves as a Growth Advisor at Teladoc Health in Canada and advises several emerging health startups. Previously, Dr. Khayat led the Futures team at SE Health, a national home healthcare and aging social enterprise, where she served as their Future Strategist. She also held the position of lead for health system innovation at MaRS Discovery District, a health innovation hub in Toronto, Canada. In 2017, she was seconded to the REshape Innovation Centre at Radboud University Medical Centre in The Netherlands.

Crews, MD, ScM, FASN, MACP, a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. In her conversation with Ms. Pryor, Dr. Crews discusses how nephrology nurses can advance equity in kidney disease outcomes by focusing on social drivers of health inequities.
Deidra C. Crews, MD, ScM, FASN, MACP, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, and she holds appointments with the School of Nursing; the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology, and Clinical Research; the Center on Aging and Health; and the Center for Health Equity, where she is Deputy Director. Her research focuses on addressing disparities in the care and outcomes of kidney disease and hypertension through epidemiologic studies and clinical trials. An elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, Dr. Crews has received numerous awards for her research contributions, including the 2018 Johns Hopkins University President’s Frontier Award, the 2019 W. Lester Henry Award for Diversity and Access to Care from the American College of Physicians, and the 2019 Distinguished Leader Award from the American Society of Nephrology, where she currently serves as secretary.

010. Nephrology Nursing and Leadership: Through the Eyes of a Person with CKD
30 NOV 2021 · In this episode, Lillian Pryor, MSN, RN, CNN, the 2020-2021 President of the American Nephrology Nurses Association, talks with Mr. Richard Knight, President of the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP), about his life with chronic kidney disease, how he was first introduced to chronic kidney disease, and how nursing has impacted his experience. He also gives us some perspectives on how, from his point of view, nursing can make a difference in the CKD world.
Richard A. Knight is a health care professional and a former patient who received hemodialysis and received a kidney transplant approximately 15 years ago. Mr. Knight is President of the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP), the oldest and largest independent kidney patient organization in the United States. He is a former member of the NIDDK Advisory Council and serves as the Co-Chair of the Stakeholder Engagement Sub Group for NIDDK’s Strategic Plan. He also is a member of the Scientific Registry for Transplant Recipients Review Committee and Co-Chair of the SRTR’s Patient and Family Advisory Sub-Committee.

Virginia Henry, BS, RN, is a Canadian/American nephrology nurse who is currently serving as ANNA’s first New Emerging Nephrology Nurse Fellowship. She is an acute hemodialysis nurse at Mayo Clinic, Phoenix, Arizona. Her passion for serving on the ANNA Board stems from her previous BA in Political Science with a focus in Health Policy at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She is passionate about nephrology nursing and the population she serves, and eventually would love to get her feet back into politics and policy to advocate for and help improve the lives of nephrology patients.

Loretta Jackson Brown, PhD, RN, CNN, began her nursing career as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Dr. Brown is the Senior Health Communication Specialist and Team Lead, Education, Campaigns, and Implementation, for the National Center of Injury Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Brown is a leader within the American Nephrology Nurses Association, having served as a Southeast Vice President on the ANNA Board of Directors, chaired the ANNA Leadership Development Committee, and an author for ANNA publications and the Nephrology Nursing Journal. She currently serves as chair of ANNA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and is a member of ANNA’s Dogwood Chapter in Georgia.

Jami Smith Brown, DHEd, MSN, RN, CNN, is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Brown holds national certification as a certified nephrology nurse. Dr. Brown is an active member of the American Nephrology Nurses Association and other national organizations. She is the Leader of ANNA’s Educator Specialty Practice Network, serves on ANNA’s Leadership and Research Committee, and is a member of the Manuscript Review Panel for the Nephrology Nursing Journal.
Amber B. Paulus, PhD, RN, CPHQ, is a Registered Nurse and Health Services Researcher whose research endeavors focus on evaluating the quality of health care delivery, health care outcomes, and quality improvement initiatives among individuals with kidney disease and providers of transplant and dialysis services. She currently serves as the Director of Data Science at Quality Insights, driving the organizational strategy for data initiatives. Through her role at Quality Insights, she also leads research projects focused on evaluating the 5-Diamond Patient Safety program concerning several components of patient safety among dialysis providers, including emergency management, identifying barriers to home dialysis and kidney transplantation utilization, and the screening and management of the novel coronavirus COVID-19. Dr. Paulus serves as the chapter president of the Old Dominion chapter of the American Nephrology Nursing Association, chair designee of the ANNA Research Committee, and is a member of the ANNA Leadership Committee.
