Musings on Mysteries and the Mythical Matrix (“M Quad” or "M^4" for short) is a podcast that explores various mysteries and evaluates comparative mythology from an objective perspective. There are dozens of questions that are left unanswered in the standard model: questions that this podcast will charge headfirst into. We resume our discussion on the flood by analyizing Augstine of Hippo's comments on the passage of Genesis 6, and his errors in interpreting the Hebrew language from "The City of God, Book XV". We then resume where we left off in Genesis 7, and blitz through the key points of Genesis 8 & 9, bringing our Genesis Deconstruction series to a close. The flood has some interesting implications to offer for our understanding of the modern world!

Episode 009 - Deconstructing the Flood: Part 1

At long last, we reach our deep dive into the flood. We start off by exploring the history and context of idea of the Nephilim, and how the meaning of this idea sets the stage for our understanding as to why God initiated the flood. This idea sheds some interesting light on how we read accounts of myth from other cultures, such as Greek. We also explore the idea of how the Biblical flood myth could be a "copy" of other myth accounts. Finally, we finish out with a discussion from our resident fish nerd on how the salinity of the ocean would have worked with a flood.

In this episode, we kick off our "Is the Bible Viable" series with guest Reverend Harrison Smith. We play with ideas like good and evil, the idea of a creator versus life happening by chance, and plenty of fish talk!
This conversation is the next logical step in our Genesis deconstruction. Anyone looking to have a logical conversation must ask the question, after reading a detailed account such as Genesis' creation account, whether this account has any validity. Our goal is to examine each mythology story from the same logical thought process as well, and use the details of Genesis to stich together the truth underlying the mythical matrix that we see sprinkled across both cultures and time.

Episode 007 - Deconstructing Genesis 4, 5, 10, & 11
19 JUN 2024 · In this episode we explore Abel's murder, genealogies in Genesis 5 & 10, and the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11 along with its potential implications between the original Hebrew, and the context of pre-flood world from Genesis 6. We explore the idea of a 6,000-year-old earth vs a 10,000-year-old earth that many young earth creationists would promote.
This episode is intentionally done out of order from the rest of the Genesis series to discuss some of the less relevant sections of Genesis 1-11 for the podcast's intent. It may not be as action packed as our other episodes, but still brings value to the Genesis Deconstruction effort.
Episode 006 - The Euthypro Dilemma, & Freewill
12 JUN 2024 · In this episode, we take a break from the deep interlinear analysis and shift gears to the topics of philosophy (and theology). The Euthypro Dilemma is philosphical argument laid out by Socrates to the Greek Hero Euthypro, and we use this philosphical issue to shed light on the topic of freewill from a Christian perspective and how these principles affect the Christian.
While this episode dives deeper into the discussion of theology, it is a crucial part of the journey for anyone studying comparative myth. Understanding the implications of the Christian faith will serve as a guide for exploring the theology and polytheism of other myths. But if a theological discussion isn't you're cup of tea, we hope you will join us on the next episode.

Episode 004 - Deconstructing Genesis 2, & Misogyny
1 JUN 2024 · Trace rejoins Josiah in this episode to continue the deep interlinear analysis of Genesis 2 and explore fringe ideas/interpretations of the text. We explore supposed contradictions, and implications of verses to the state of the world. The “misogynistic” interpretation of the Hebrew word for “rib” is also explored. Trace proves his superiority as the resident dinosaur nerd at the conclusion for our “creature fact” of the episode.
