    The Lux Theater show was an American television anthology series that was produced from 1950 until 1957. The series presented both comedy and drama in original teleplays, as well as abridged adaptations of films and plays.The show began as a live 30-minute Monday evening CBS series on October 2, 1950, switching to Thursday nights during August, 1951. In September 1953, the show relocated from New York to Hollywood. On August 26, 1954, it debuted on NBC as an hour-long show on Thursday nights, telecast until September 12, 1957. With the introduction of the one-hour format and the move to Hollywood, abridged versions of popular films were often used as the basis for shows.Some of the most popular Lux Theater shows included adaptations of the films "Casablanca," "Gone with the Wind," and "The Wizard of Oz." The show also featured original teleplays by some of the most acclaimed writers of the day, including Rod Serling, Paddy Chayefsky, and Reginald Rose.The Lux Theater show was one of the most popular television programs of its era, and it helped to establish the anthology format as a staple of television programming. The show also helped to launch the careers of many Hollywood stars, including Bette Davis, Cary Grant, and James Dean.The Lux Theater show was canceled in 1957 due to rising costs and declining ratings.
