Marysia Trembecka talks about focusing on and making your creative dreams come true along with making money so it becomes a job not a hobby,
'Welcome to my podcast (there's a blog too!) on being creative, from that initial sparkle of the thought ‘I could’ to actually finishing it and getting your ‘art’ out there.
"I sometimes only seem to create when I have to create, under pressure or deadlines and then I moan about the rush. Ridiculous when I think about the fact I have chosen this creative life, or it has chosen me and I must follow my muse – often grumpily it seems! Or I do nothing and then feel guilty as I watch friends get with their own projects. Hence this podcast is about what techniques we can all use to get the work done and out there, no matter where you work full time as an actor, a choreographer or have a yearning to paint more over the weekends."
From City bond dealer to selling out stage sensation, Marysia Trembecka is an actress, musician and comic, creating and performing sell-out shows internationally from Australia to many Edinburgh Fringe sell-out runs. Her comedy creation, The Singing Psychic even has a game show version and appearing from the Brit Awards to live TV and radio, whilst her Queen Of The F*cking World sexual politics theatre show was awarded Arts Council England funding and is fiercely pro love and respect for all.
Her favourite press quote for the Singing Psychic is 'Totally bonkers (in a good way)' *****
For over a decade, she has brought joy to thousands of people with her witty, controversial and thought provoking shows that are both highly entertaining and emotional. Marysia has appeared in a number of films including the multi award-winning Sunday Dinner With The Morgans, which reached the semi-final nominations round for an Academy Award. She has performed at the official after party for The Brit Awards and been a Tedx speaker.
She is also a filmmaker, including a 23 episode documentary 'SONGS OF BREXIT' 'all the facts with song and no yelling' through her Best Show, Funny Women nominee comedy character THE SINGING PSYCHIC. Her album 'If You Can't Make Love, Make Coffee' she recorded with a live 8 piece band she put together for the project.

27 MAR 2023 · 5 Ways to finish March and start April feeling creative, joyful and focused.
I am recording this on Monday the 27th March but you can use these questions any month as the month ends
1. What are the one or two things you'd like to get done this week so you can end the month feeling positive and you have achieved some things,
2. What can you start so you feel ready to hit April feeling focused, from starting a new fitness plan to making a call for a meeting on a new project.
3. Start dreaming about what the next 3 months will look like and what you want to achieve
4. Whats holding you back from achieving your next 3 months goals, is it a lack of money, a plan, an untidy home or finances
5. What can you then get finished this week from the list of no 4 to really hit next month feeling clear.
Aims of this podcast - Love Your Creativity & Make Money
This podcast is about being a working creative from thoughts on marketing, budget to what techniques we can all use to get the work done and out there, no matter where you work full time as an actor, a choreographer or have a yearning to paint more over the weekends.
About me, Marysia Trembecka
I am at heart a storyteller and this has translated from the initial creation of work to being a performer, including film and theatre acting, writing and performing international touring comedy shows to MCing.
Highlights include sell-out Adelaide and Edinburgh Fringe shows, singing at the Royal Festival Hall in 23 different languages, as well as doing TEDx talks and corporate gigs, such as the Brit Awards Afterparty at the 02 as my ‘The Singing Psychic’ bio queen character.
21 FEB 2022 · Constructive Critiscism = Bloodwork, Feedback is just facts
So this week's new podcast 64 is all about getting into a healthy mindset about criticism of yourself as an artist or your art, whether you are a musician, filmmaker or visual artist. So try looking at Constructive Critiscism being Bloodwork, Feedback being just facts.
Just like an athlete looks at stats and speed and daily notes on their progress so we can choose to take what is useful in the noves we are given and implement changes in our creative work or practise more. We can also ignore what does not work or hurts us. Feedback is just facts, take the emotion out where you can.
It is very easy as a creative to stop work or feeling hope upon getting negative feedback about your work. Press, reviewers and trolls can say things that can really seem to hurt and the memory of what people to or about you and your work can stay with you forever. Worse it can stop you creating and trying new things as well as really affect your mental health.
Even super successful creatives all have tales of a huge rejection or bad press. I once asked and will never forget Sir Derek Jacobi CBE telling his tale of how he never reads his press. (full details in the podcast) despite being a founder member of the Royal National Theatre and winning several prestigious theatre awards, a BAFTA and has twice been awarded a Laurence Olivier Award, a Tony Award two Primetime Emmy Awards for two Screen Actors Guild Awards
It can be worse at the start of your career especially young press such as student reviewers who may be reviewing your work and trying to be clever. Also teachers can also have favourites so can not believe in you
However getting constructive feedback from educated reviewers who understand the context of your work, people you respect in your own field and the wider world can really help you improve your own craft and your work. You can of course disagree with their opinions and should especially if it feels like your work is about something very different than they get.
Some people will love your work, some will never get you, so it is a case of building an tribe around you you have faith in, but not in an Emperor's new clothes way where no one tells you what needs improving. The earlier you can, the quicker you can soar in your work as we all need support, even if it is new work that people dont seem to get right now.

15 FEB 2022 · Rewarding your curiosity can really help make you more creative, have more open ideas and make you happier.
Hence taking a course in something you are interested in, or learning all you can from books, the web on a subject or someone or by developing new skills in a certain area can make you feel fabulous and make you start making connections in new ways.
One way to declare someone a genius can be by their unusual ways of making connections on subjects they know a lot about and creative genius can certainly be applied to that. So the more you can look or know about something from lots of different perspectives and then making your choices, the more interesting and well rounded the work is.
Open minded creatives be it in science or art have a new often exciting fresh perspective by knowing the existing points of views or 'rules' and then drilling into them or making up their own or by contrasting them.
As a jazz musician I learnt many many different scales and ways to get into them so that when any of us improvise we can pull creatively from an embedded bank of knowledge and don't just hit the same obvious notes. Other types of musicians may choose to have 5 years of being fascinated by a certain type of music before moving on or get focused how to play certain things much much better.
So this week's new podcast 63 is all about curiosity and how discovering the answers can be a really great way to feel happier, we all like learning the answers and unravelling mysteries. If there is too much uncertainty though we feel less happy.
So whether you are curious to learn about a new drum sound, new software, a certain type of literature, music, film or art made at a certain point or place in time I can only encourage us all to go after what you are curious about. You will later find it influences your own work and your skill level in often indefinable, subtle ways.

7 FEB 2022 · Where can you save money and put it instead towards your next creative project?
Last week in the UK we all had to file our taxes and it made me think about all that money we can earn and sometimes wonder where it has all gone.
So this week's podcast is about one way I support my own life as a creative is to save money every month in a sinking fund/special bank account so that when I need to pay for research, exhibitions venues, fringe brochures or workshops I already have money saved to pay for it.
Yes COVID has certainly decimated most peoples earnings as creatives, I lost my 5 nights a week gigs and sometimes we dont have much spare cash. However, even in normal times it is very easy to overspend in some areas of our lives such as entertainment, going out and then say we have no time or money to make our art.
It can be worse if you have a non creative job to pay your bills and it is easy to get into the mindset that you deserve a takeaway after a long day at non- dream work, non fulfilling work or have way too many drinks on a Friday eve.
So I decide before the month begins with my variable freelance income, once my basic bills are paid that I will save and invest into my own creativity before overspending on other ultimately less important to me areas. Even if it is £25 or £100 a month that gets tucked away for your art then you start taking yourself as a working creative more seriously.
So maybe look at your spending last month and see where you could have instead used that and saved it for a workshop, materials, going to a relevant networking event or pre production costs on your next show, album or a graphic artist for your next book.

31 JAN 2022 · How to use the Nadal, Djokovic & Federer rivalry to become better at your art form
I was reading about the Nadal, Djokovic & Federer rivalry and how they have all pushed each other to become better players as each of them are just such incredible tennis players.
Until Nadal won the Australian Open yesterday the three players had been stuck on all winning 20 Grand Slam titles each, Federer who is 40 has been there since 2018, Nadal (36) in 2021, Djokovic (35) in 2021.
What is fascinating is how they have all had to step up and improve their game to be able to ccmpete with each other. I am sure knowing this is partly why Nadal managed to come back from 2 sets and 3 games down to then beating Medvedev yesterday, knowing h was truly beating his historic rivals.
Of course in tennis one has to beat someone to win, in art winning is luckily not so focused about taking someone else down.
So this week's podcast is all about how we can be inspired to improve by others in our field and in other fields, how it can help us focus on the small details that make us a winner and motivate us.
My programme ‘Get Your Art In Gear’ will be available by Feb 14 2022, I am currently recording all the audio for it. So each morning I am getting up 2 hours early and doing a focused stint of audio recording before my day commences. 24 JAN 2022 · By the 3rd week of January most people have failed on their New Year's resolutions.
We all set impossible tasks at a time when many of us are in cold dark January and no Xmas sparkle to entertain ourselves with. Plus we are all in various savages of lockdown so if this is you definitely dont feel guilty.
When it comes to being a creative and working on your new show or book , it is equally hard to keep putting off doing the writing or editing work you need to do. Without external deadlines or people asking for your work January is an easy month to feel despondent.
However my fix to that as a creative is taking daily action towards my goal. If you want to lose weight, whatever happened the day before, today and every day you still need to get exercise in and eat well, ideally tracking your progress weekly.
Becoming a great musician or writer requires consisten daily action. So my suggestion for my podcast this week is to forget big goals and insane NY resolutions and decide every day to take a small step towards your dreams.
Make a call to a venue or an editor, get up early and write for 30 mins, learn a new song a week.

16 JAN 2022 · I read Sidney Poitier'a autobiography perhaps 15 years ago and there are stories of his youth he tells that I have never forgotten. They illustrate his self respect, his focus and also his humility. His unwillingness to play stereotypical of the time characters and how luck met his focus is fascinating.

3 JAN 2022 · Podcast episode to kick off 2022.
The issue with new years resolutions are they are often too big, too many, impossible in the time frame.
Instead ask what you really want to achieve in this new year and what you choose to not do from drinking to your netflix addiction to free up time to focus on getting your big Yes
29 NOV 2021 · As I record this live it is on the last Monday in November and I am very aware that 2021 was not quite the creative full on comeback I had wanted.
So. This week's podcast episode is about seeing what 2021 goals you had dreamed up and seeing where you can get one of them at least moved on to the next stage or indeed marketed and ready for sale pre Xmas.
Use this last energy push of how great you will feel if you get one important creative goal out before year end.
Ep 56 - Rule Of 3rds, Managing Your Mindset & Self Expectations. Love Your Creativity AND Make Money
15 NOV 2021 · This week's podcast is on the rule of thirds, something I heard an Olympiad talking about in training. This is the idea that when you are training you will :
A third of the time you will feel amazing.
A third you will feel just ok
A third you will feel the pain, really can't be bothered and find it hard to push through
Of course world class athletes train daily to or beyond the point of pain and probably boredom as well. However this mental expectation works just as well for us creatives who do need to practice our crady every day, or get back to selling our art after the 20 21 hiatus.
