The term “white China” or “blanc de Chine” is used to define the white porcelain produced from the 12th-13th centuries in various kilns in the province of Fujian, particularly around the town of Dehua. The statue depicts the Buddhist deity of mercy Guanyin “She who hears the voices of the World”. The figure holds the jar of ambrosia, to soothe wounds, and the flyswatter to eliminate Evil, standing on the waves of the ocean.
