The terracotta tower is built with a giant lathe. It symbolizes the artist’s passion for terracotta, a primary material that takes him back to his training in Faenza at the Art Institute in the 1950s. The artist participates in the fervid creative climate of the school, a crossroads of artists and experiences, where research on “high temperature” materials is developed. Turris is a sculpture with an archaic appearance, a memory of ancient cultures and refers to Spagnulo’s thoughts on his work: “sculpture is not a job, it is a curse, it is absurd, it weighs a lot, it breaks, carrying it around is so tiring that only inhuman men, sadistic masochistic titans can do it”.
