Practice? We talking about practice?
Indeed we are, and with all due respect to Detroit casino legend Allen Iverson, Tuesday's Detroit Lions-New York Giants joint practice felt like something a little more to some of the parties involved.
Lions coach Dan Campbell came to the podium for his morning news conference sounding like he had ingested double the copious amount of caffeine he usually scarfs down in a day. Undrafted rookie cornerback Starling Thomas got into a shoving match after losing his helmet on the first play of the special teams period. And when all 180 or so players from both teams convened for a red zone period at the end of practice, Jared Goff sidled up next to Alex Anzalone and asked a very important question.
"He’s like, 'Hey, how’d you guys do over there?'" Anzalone told the Free Press after the first of the Lions' two joint workouts with the Giants. "You get a vibe and a feel of how you guys did, and you got to wait till you watch the film really and who really dominated and everything like that, but they hit a run on you, you're like, '(Expletive)!' Detroit Lions Draft Review 2023
30 APR 2023 · Thursday night began the 2023 NFL draft which took place in Kansas City. The home of the Super Bowl Champion Chiefs, with the Dolphins forfeiting their pick due to #BradyGate there would only be 31 first round picks. The Detroit Lions held two picks originally at 6 and 18 but made a trade with the Arizona Cardinals to move back to 12. The Detroit Lions also picked up a second round pick at #34 which is basically Round 2 Pick 3. Much has been made on Detroit Sports Talk radio about the Lions picking a Running Back and a Linebacker in the first round.
The NFL draft was thrown into chaos when the Houston Texans moved up and picked CJ Stroud and Will Anderson back to back. The entire draft boards of several NFL teams were blown up by this. The Lions seemed to make it look like Bijan Robinson was their draft target, but he was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons at 8.
The NFL draft was considered lighter on generational talent that could shake the league and make a team better immediately. Many of the big name players were taken quickly after the Cardinals and Lions made their trade.

Will Levis Plummets Due To Toe Injury There are several noteworthy prospects still available, starting with Kentucky quarterback Will Levis, who tumbled out of Round 1. Could he find an early landing spot Friday? The other highest-regarded remaining players include Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer, Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr., Alabama defensive back Brian Branch and Oregon State tight end Luke Musgrave. Each was thought to have a chance to go in the first round.

Kentucky quarterback Will Levis, widely expected to be a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, was not chosen among the 31 selections made Thursday night.
ESPN draft analysts Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay both had Levis being selected by the Indianapolis Colts in their final mock drafts. The Colts, however, selected Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 pick.
Levis' left toe that caused him to miss two games last year was "problematic " for one team that considered him, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Thursday.
Levis, who is 6-foot-4 and 229 pounds, has drawn comparisons to Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen with his strong arm and above-average mobility. Levis spent the first two years of his college career at Penn State before transferring to Kentucky as a junior. His production fell off last season as a senior, when he passed for 2,406 yards with 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions after throwing for 2,826 yards, 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 2021. He also rushed for nine touchdowns as a junior but managed just two rushing scores last season.

15 MAR 2023 · Detroit Lions land RB David Montgomery in free agency, say good-bye to Jamaal Williams
The Detroit Lions will have a new a workhorse in their backfield in 2023.
The Lions reached agreement on a three-year, $18 million contract with Chicago Bears free agent running back David Montgomery late Tuesday night, according to multiple reports.
Montgomery's signing, which can become official at 4 p.m. Wednesday, likely means the end of Jamaal Williams' time in Detroit.
Williams led the Lions with 1,066 yards rushing and the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns last season. A fan favorite in Detroit, Williams became the first Lion to top 1,000 yards rushing since Reggie Bush in 2013 and broke Barry Sanders' franchise single-season touchdown record.
He said after the season he hoped to sign a long-term extension with the Lions, and the two sides met to discuss a new contract at the NFL combine earlier this month.In Montgomery, the Lions believe they upgraded their offense with one of the most productive and durable backs on the market.A third-round pick out of Iowa State in 2019, Montgomery topped 200 carries in each of his four seasons with the Bears. He ran for career-highs of 1,070 yards and eight touchdowns in 2020, topped 800 yards each of the past two seasons and has averaged 3.9 yards per carry on nearly 1,000 attempts for his career.

“Detroit feels it,” Aidan Hutchinson said after the Lions’ 34-23 victory Sunday over the Minnesota Vikings. “They feel we're coming along right now; and we're gonna make this playoff push at the end and do everything we can to get in, and it takes one game at a time.”
Yes, everybody is feelin’ it. Because this feels so different. The vibe around the Lions is unmistakable — this team that has won five of six games to make it to 6-7.

Detroit Tigers Split Double Header With Twins Thanks To Johnathan Schoop
They didn't wait long to get the bats going in the nightcap. Willi Castro led off the bottom of the first with a single to left and Schoop hammered a 2-2 slider some 387 feet into the left field seats.
"Very nice to have the lead and Jonathan put a nice swing on it, in a couple at-bats, he had a nice night," Hinch said. "Getting that lead and then hitting the super special spin ball that shot by Polanco was nice in the second to be able to tack on a couple runs."
The Tigers put two runners in scoring position again in the second and, after a Castro strikeout, Schoop again came to the plate and hit the ball off the end of his bat to the right side of the infield.
Twins second baseman Jorge Polanco ranged to his left, slightly over ran it and got a bad hop as the ball caromed off his glove and into center field, allowing Jeimer Candelario and Daz Cameron to score.

Detroit Lions cut A Kicker
The Detroit Lions' kicking competition is down to two. Locked On Lions Host Matt Dery has been rocked with Anxiety all day fearing Ryan Santosa will be resigned. The glorious Mustache that stole the heart of every man woman and child in Metro Detroit has not been rumored to come back though.
The Lions cut veteran kicker Aldrick Rosas on Tuesday and were awarded defensive John Cominsky off waivers from the Atlanta Falcons.

Rosas, a Pro Bowler with the New York Giants in 2018, spent part of last season on the Lions' practice squad, kicking in one game and making his only field goal attempt.
The Lions signed Rosas to a futures contract in February, but special teams coordinator Dave Fipp indicated Rosas was around in part because of concerns about Austin Seibert's health.
Seibert opened last season as Lions kicker, but missed the second half of the year after undergoing adductor surgery. He is back kicking in Organized Team Activities.
