A brilliant selection of luminous Catalan films, many of them coming to Scotland after being praised in top festivals around the world. Our film programme that combines pure, unpretentious laughter with shocking, difficult to portray stories. The warm summer season is hyper present in this programme of films that range from family horror to gorgeous delicate dramas. Summer camps, parties on the beach, and a mad Bridget Jones-style New Year’s Eve in Barcelona. Among the programme's highlights is also Lucía Aleñar's Forastera, selected at Semaine de la Critique Cannes 2000 - its visual universe forms the basis for the design of this year's festival images.

In our short film programme, we also see diverse communities resisting and adapting to the forces of capitalism. Development projects and neighbours pushed out of their homes by the pressures of the touristic bubble shaking Barcelona. The experience of minority groups, Syrian, Romani or Dominican citizens in Catalan communities. Deeply emotional family letters and a Cannes selected short film taking us to 1980s Bilbao, at the height of the Basque conflict, when homosexual love was not allowed. With dignity and melancholy, they are all resisting.
