4 APR 2021 · Talking to Ann-marie
This episode sees me talking to Ann-marie, an ex colleague and friend who grew up in London, England. She talks to me about her upbringing, what it was like entering the workplace as a woman of colour. The adjustments required to acclimate in the workplace and what that does to you as an individual. Ann-marie shares her joys and the lessons she's learned and helps me heal through storytelling and laughter.
18 MAR 2021 · This episode captures an incredible conversation with my cousin Annie. We talk for the first time about what it was like growing up in Apartheid South Africa, a darker shade of brown. We explore subjects like beauty, excellence and white privilege and what this meant in the South African context. Sharing our experiences allows us come to terms with memories of a time difficult to acknowledge even existed. By speaking it out loud, it allows us to come to terms with this truth. It allows us to grieve and to move on. If you are curious about what it was like growing up during this time in history, or confused about aspects of the race issue, then this episode may give you some context and clarity.
2 AUG 2020 · I talk to Dilys Wyngaard about family, heritage and the characteristics that make us incredibly resilient as a people. We explore ways in which we can individually move through our pain and positively impact each other and the world as a whole.
25 JUL 2020 · This is the final Episode in a 3 part series. In the first 2 Episodes you received insight into what it was like for my Mum growing up in Pre and Post Apartheid South Africa. She takes us through the joys of growing up in Knysna in the 50's and 60's and also many of the challenges faced by a person of colour. In this final episode we meet a true ally, a white man standing between my mother and the system. Tragic and Triumphant.
19 JUL 2020 · In this episode you will meet a witch and bishop. My Mum tackles subjects such as subservience with tons of humour and talks us through her early years as a young student, a man magnet :-) and a new wife. During Apartheid South Africa, careers for black and coloured people were limited. You'll hear of the clever ways in which my mother navigated her circumstances to do everything she could to reach her dream of becoming a nurse. More obstacles faced and won. This episode is for the curious and the brave.
