  • Untold Stories From the Widows of Ronnie Van Zant, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Keith Moon & More [Episode 203]

25 JUN 2024 · Lori Tucker-Sullivan is a first-time guest. She’s the author of the new book I Can't Remember If I Cried: Rock Widows on Life, Love, and Legacy. The stories of rock musicians who die young are the thing of lore and legend. Accidents, drug overdoses, plane crashes—all have taken the lives of male rock stars still in their primes. But what became of their widowed brides? How did they survive a loss so great? What is it like to have to share your grief with millions of strangers? And where are these widows today? I Can’t Remember if I Cried is part music history, part memoir, based around interviews with rock widows conducted by Lori —who herself lost her husband in 2010. With each widow that Lori interviews, she learns lessons in love, forgiveness, coping, and moving on. The book is framed by the author’s own narrative to create a single thread that links the stories together to ultimately create a tale of how the author’s life is changed through her interactions with these amazing women. Among the women profiled in the book are: - Judy Van Zant who, after losing husband Ronnie of Lynyrd Skynyrd, sued the re-formed band in order to protect her interests. - Sandy Chapin, widow of Harry Chapin, who has worked tirelessly to uphold Harry’s significant legacy around activism and hunger prevention. - Crystal Zevon, the ex-wife of Warren Zevon, who provides details of her abusive relationship with Warren and how she resolved her anger and grief. - Jamie Weiland, widow of Stone Temple Pilots’ Scott Weiland, speaking openly of Scott’s mental health, which at times kept him housebound for days. - Janna Leblanc, girlfriend of Stevie Ray Vaughan, who shares the details of her visits with Stevie in rehab. - Gloria Jones, the girlfriend of T. Rex’s Marc Bolan who was driving the car which crashed and took Marc’s life. - Anna Walter-Lax, girlfriend of Who drummer Keith Moon Lori shares with us some of what these women shared with her for the book and how her life has been changed as a result of writing this book. https://www.amazon.com/Cant-Remember-If-Cried-Widows/dp/1493084143 https://lorituckersullivan.com/ https://www.instagram.com/rockwidows/ ----------   https://www.bookedonrock.com/   https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbqUFiA-IGq97wkB5FEJB4Q   Follow The Booked On Rock with Eric Senich: https://www.facebook.com/bookedonrockpodcast https://www.instagram.com/bookedonrockpodcast https://www.tiktok.com/@bookedonrock https://twitter.com/bookedonrock   https://www.indiebound.org/indie-store-finder   Contact The Booked On Rock Podcast: thebookedonrockpodcast@gmail.com   The Booked On Rock Music: “Whoosh” by https://www.crowander.com/ / “Last Train North” & “No Mercy” by https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCALNf7YM2pEGJvIHf1zxftA

  • Rock Chronicles: Joe Matera Unveils the Backstage and Beyond with Music Legends [Episode 197]

8 MAY 2024 · Joe Matera is a returning guest to the podcast. Joe has a brand new book titled Louder Than Words: Beyond The Backstage Pass. This is a follow-up to 2021’s Backstage Pass: The Grit and the Glamour. Joe holds a unique position as a music journalist who is also a professional musician. It’s allowed him access to areas where music journalists aren’t able to. In this, his second book, Joe traces his childhood influences and meets the musicians who changed his life from heroes such as Janne Schaffer, who played on ABBA’s studio albums, to Gerry Rafferty (the genius behind ‘Baker Street’) and international superstar Bryan Adams and his songwriting partner Jim Vallance. Louder Than Words also delves into the often torturous touring life of a musician, with life on the road often leading to band break-ups or mental breakdowns. Joe also examines the impact of MTV on a generation of musicians, particularly one video by rising rock star Billy Squier that’s said to have ruined his career.  In addition to his solo music career as a singer/songwriter/guitarist, Joe Matera has written for international music magazines like Guitar Player, Guitar World, Record Collector, and Goldmine. He also writes a popular newspaper music column for the Shepparton News. His list of interviewees includes Metallica, Queen, Blondie, Bon Jovi, KISS, and Black Sabbath, to name just a few. https://www.amazon.com.au/Louder-Than-Words-Beyond-Backstage/dp/1915616123?shipTo=NZ&source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=ANEGB3WVEVKZB&language=en_AU   https://joematera.com/ ----------   https://www.bookedonrock.com/   https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbqUFiA-IGq97wkB5FEJB4Q   Follow The Booked On Rock with Eric Senich: https://www.facebook.com/bookedonrockpodcast https://www.instagram.com/bookedonrockpodcast https://www.tiktok.com/@bookedonrock https://twitter.com/bookedonrock   https://www.indiebound.org/indie-store-finder   Contact The Booked On Rock Podcast: thebookedonrockpodcast@gmail.com The Booked On Rock Music: “Whoosh” by https://www.crowander.com/ / “Last Train North” & “No Mercy” by https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCALNf7YM2pEGJvIHf1zxftA

Rhythms to Ruin: The Shocking Downfall of Rock's Greatest Drummer, Jim Gordon [Episode 195]

26 APR 2024 · Author Joel Selvin talks about his new book Drums & Demons: The Tragic Journey of Jim Gordon. Jim Gordon has been called the greatest rock drummer of all time by the world-famous musicians who played with him—John Lennon, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Frank Zappa, Steely Dan, Ringo Starr, Harry Nilsson, Joe Cocker, and many more. They knew him for his superior playing, extraordinary training and technique, preternatural intuition, perfect sense of time, and his “big fill”—the mathematically precise clatter that exploded like detonating fireworks on his drum breaks. And as best-selling author and award-winning journalist Joel Selvin reveals, the story of Jim Gordon is the most brilliant, turbulent, and wrenching rock opera ever. The very chemicals in his brain that gifted him also destroyed him. His head crowded with a hellish gang of voices screaming at him, demanding obedience, Gordon descended from the absolute heights of the rock world—playing with the most famous musicians of his generation—to working with a Santa Monica dive-bar band for $30 a night. And then he committed the most shocking crime in rock history. With full cooperation from the late Gordon's family, and based on his trademark extensive, detailed research, Joel Selvin’s account is at once an epic journey through an artist’s monumental musical contributions, a rollicking history of rock drumming, and a terrifying downward spiral into unimaginable madness that Gordon fought a valiant but losing battle against. One of the great untold stories of rock is finally being told. https://www.amazon.com/Drums-Demons-Tragic-Journey-Gordon/dp/1635768993   https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7aIHh3DwJ4coua93fbXSYs?si=a86192e0ee4c475c https://www.joelselvin.com/ ----------   https://www.bookedonrock.com/   https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbqUFiA-IGq97wkB5FEJB4Q   Follow The Booked On Rock with Eric Senich: https://www.facebook.com/bookedonrockpodcast https://www.instagram.com/bookedonrockpodcast https://www.tiktok.com/@bookedonrock https://twitter.com/bookedonrock https://www.indiebound.org/indie-store-finder   Contact The Booked On Rock Podcast: thebookedonrockpodcast@gmail.com   The Booked On Rock Music: “Whoosh” by https://www.crowander.com/ / “Last Train North” & “No Mercy” by https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCALNf7YM2pEGJvIHf1zxftA
