15 OCT 2026 · The Tin, the Bracelet, and the Phone Number That Waited 26 Years
Fear that someone is still out there waiting: a phone number sat inside a tartan tin for twenty-six years until a golden retriever named Biscuit unearthed it beneath a sweetgum root on March 1, 2019 - the newborn hospital bracelet inside still showed four letters, W-A-L-S. Who placed the tin, why it was hidden on private land, and what that final phone call would do remained unanswered until someone finally dialed it.
In this episode, we follow the sequence of events from the morning Connie Wells found the tin on the eastern trail in Harwick County to the sheriff’s office evidence table and the calls that followed - tracing a folded note, two hospital bracelets, and a Harwick County phone number back to the person it named. How did a paper bracelet and a patient phone number close a twenty-six-year loop?
Person: Alice Walsh
Date: March 1, 2019
Location: Harwick County eastern trail, under a sweetgum tree root
Event: Tartan tin contained two hospital bracelets and a handwritten note with a Harwick County phone number
Case: Tin placed in autumn 2003; phone number dialed in 2019
- A golden retriever named Biscuit pulled the tartan tin from beneath an exposed sweetgum root on the morning of March 1, 2019.
- The newborn hospital bracelet in the tin retained four readable letters in the name field: W-A-L-S.
- The folded handwritten note inside the tin stated: "Her name is Alice. The woman with me knows where I am. If she kept the tin, she kept faith." and included a Harwick County phone number.
- Alice Walsh was twenty-six years old in spring 2019 and worked as a phlebotomist at Prattville Regional Hospital in Dunmore.
- The tin had been placed at the eastern edge of Harwick County in autumn 2003, and Loretta Vance, age sixty-seven, had been told of its location and kept that knowledge until 2019. 14 OCT 2026 · The Book in the River That Almost Stole a Sister Back
A fisherman pulled a spiral-bound genealogy book from thirty-eight-degree water at 6:40 AM on February 11, 2019 - one of only three copies in any library system and sitting unread on a shelf for seven years. Two people placed holds on that same Dunmore Parish copy at the exact same time in January 2019, and one of them had been searching for a lost sister for thirty-nine years; how did a waterlogged book become the thread that nearly rewrote a family's past?
In this episode, you will hear how a borrowed library card, a two-hour-and-forty-minute phone call, and a routine Wednesday night check-in connected a Spokane estimator to a rural Kentucky family history and shifted a cold case’s direction. Could a passing reference in a privately printed family history finally point to what happened in 1979?
Person: Mark Vaughn
Date: February 11, 2019 at 6:40 AM
Item: Our People: The Fenn Family of Harlan County (spiral-bound, 1987)
Copies in library systems: Three
Hold placed by Karen Norris: January 31, 2019
- The book was floating face-down in 38-degree water with the spine intact and pages mostly closed.
- Mark Vaughn had fished that stretch for 11 years and had never found anything like it before.
- Two people placed holds on the same Dunmore Parish copy in January 2019 at the exact same time.
- Karen Norris had held a Dunmore Parish library card since 2014 and previously borrowed the book in October 2016.
- David Bauer had called Nora Flemming every Wednesday at 9 PM Spokane time for six years, documenting leads on his sister Karen’s disappearance since 1979. To listen to this podcast ad-free and access premium episodes, try our subscription with a 14-day free trial at obomedia.com.

13 OCT 2026 · A Stranger Finds the Message She Left for Her Daughter: The Nora Finch Reunion
A hand towel with a full mailing address, stitched in dark blue thread and worn nearly transparent by three winters, hung from a nail in an empty kitchen on Maple Row - a single needlework that became the only trace of a woman lost in a flood. Nora Finch, 67, vanished after the January 2016 dam breach; the only clear sign she kept moving was a receipt showing a spool of dark blue embroidery thread bought three days later. How did a stitch and a spool become the thread that led her daughter back to her?
In this episode, we follow the documented trail left after the Decker County flood: the shelter sign-in that washed away, the receipt found in a cabinet, and the private researcher Kelly hired to trace her mother's movements. We trace the concrete clues that suggested Nora kept going after the flood and ask where those clues ultimately led.
Date: January 9, 2019
Location: 414 Maple Row, Harlan Flats, Decker County, Missouri
Person: Nora Finch, age 67
Event: Dam breach and flood, January 8, 2016
Item: Receipt from Briggs Family Foods, Brinton, Missouri dated January 11, 2016
- A hand towel with letters stitched in dark blue thread, each letter about 1 centimeter high, was found hanging above the sink.
- Nora Finch had lived at 414 Maple Row for 22 years and was 67 when the dam breached on January 8, 2016.
- Kelly Morgan, Nora’s daughter, was 31 in 2016, living about 300 miles east in Calverton, Indiana, with a four-year-old son.
- Emergency crews swept Maple Row on the night of January 8, 2016; Nora was reported not home but later registered at a Wills County high school gym shelter.
- A receipt dated January 11, 2016 from Briggs Family Foods in Brinton, Missouri listed a loaf of bread, two cans of soup, and one spool of dark blue embroidery thread. To listen to this podcast ad-free and access premium episodes, try our subscription with a 14-day free trial at obomedia.com.

12 OCT 2026 · A Folded Paper, Four Bars, and a Seven-Hour Knock
A single folded scrap of paper survived six years taped to a pump house wall, four handwritten Albanian lines and a child’s diamond border that would eventually bridge two continents. What closed the thirty-eight-year silence between a woman in rural Minnesota and a woman in Columbus, Ohio: a forty-dollar double album, an ex-postal worker, and two strangers singing the same four bars of an obscure folk song?
In this episode, you will hear how a childhood friendship split by migration endured through a kept scrap, a classified ad that went unnoticed, and a chain of coincidences that led one woman to drive seven hours in the middle of the night to knock on a door she had never seen. Can a folk melody and a folded paper really reconnect lives separated by war, time, and name changes?
Person: Jennifer Hensley
Person: Drita Nolan (formerly Drita Marku)
Date: December 14, 2019 (departure at four in the morning)
Location: rural Harwick, southwestern Minnesota to Columbus, Ohio (seven-hour drive)
Event: discovery triggered by a retired postal worker recognizing identical four bars on a double album
- Jennifer taped the folded paper to the interior wall of her pump house in 2013 where it remained for six years.
- The paper contained four handwritten lines in Albanian with four lines of approximate English translation beneath them.
- Jennifer was born in Pristina around 1972-1973 and left Kosovo in February 1981 at age nine.
- Drita left Kosovo for Germany in the mid-1980s and arrived in the United States in 1988 at age seventeen.

11 OCT 2026 · A Teacher Finds a Note That Says "Still Here": The Dennis Stevens Rescue
A single laminated safety card nailed to a dead ironwood tree said "Still here" and held ink that survived five years; a science teacher from Tacoma photographed it seventeen times before touching it. That photograph set in motion a return trip from Zamboanga Harbor to an atoll no official vessel had visited since November 2014 - but who was the card meant to tell, and why was it left facing the shadow?
In this episode, we follow the moment Shannon Hoffman found the card and the connection that pulled Dennis Stevens's daughter back to the sea. The episode covers the photograph, the vessel Meridian Star's disappearance, the Coast Guard's search, and the notebook entries that kept a question alive: could the missing emergency kit and a second safety card change everything?
Person: Dennis Stevens
Date: November 9, 2014
Location: Kaleo-East, Sulu Sea
Event: Disappearance of the Meridian Star
Person: Marisol (daughter)
- Shannon Hoffman photographed the safety card seventeen times from six angles before touching it.
- The safety card was dated November 9, 2014 and had "Still here" written in ballpoint pen.
- The last radio contact from the Meridian Star was logged at 23:40 reporting position 17 miles southwest of Kaleo Atoll.
- The Coast Guard searched the area for six days and located a debris field including a fuel tank, two orange fenders, and a length of line.
- Marisol returned to the area every November for four consecutive years, recording sea state and debris patterns in a notebook. To listen to this podcast ad-free and access premium episodes, try our subscription with a 14-day free trial at obomedia.com.

10 OCT 2026 · The Tattoo, the Envelope, and the Missing Twin Map
A wet Tuesday in October, a fourteen-year-old found a padded envelope with a laminated card showing eight uneven hooks - the same odd symbol two strangers tattooed independently on the inside of their left forearms, three hundred miles and years apart. Both tattoos trace back to a fifteenth-century Portuguese navigation manuscript error, and one notification in a genealogy inbox will force a collision: who are the two people connected by that single sentence in an adoption letter?
In this episode, we follow the parallel lives linked by a discarded image, an adoption agency's brief file, and a DNA match that arrives after years of waiting. Listen to how a paper route, a pantry volunteer shift, and a casual DNA upload converge around the question of whether a mathematical improbability can explain a human reunion.
Person: Judith Chambers
Person: Jean Marie Callahan
Person: Kevin Thomas Pratt
Event: discovery of laminated card on Oleander Terrace
Event: DNA notification received in October 2014
- Judith Chambers found a padded envelope with a laminated card at 6:40 AM on a wet Tuesday in October.
- Jean Marie Callahan was 28 years old in October 2014 and had volunteered at the Kellerton Community Pantry since January 2011.
- Jean requested a non-identifying adoption letter at age 22 that stated a twin boy had been placed separately eight days after birth.
- Kevin Thomas Pratt was born March 4, 1986, and received his inside-left-forearm tattoo in 2008 at age 22.
- Jean uploaded her DNA to three genealogy databases in 2012 and received a crucial notification nine days after Kevin uploaded his sample in late September 2014. To listen to this podcast ad-free and access premium episodes, try our subscription with a 14-day free trial at obomedia.com.

9 OCT 2026 · Son Recognizes His Mother's Handwriting on a Lost Sign: The Sarah Sheridan Reunion
A dried cardboard protest sign travels four and a half miles overnight from an Orchard Street labor rally to a locked municipal yard, then is photographed at 2:10 a.m. on September 15, 2011 - and two days later a delivery driver in Pittsburgh recognizes the handwriting as his estranged mother's. What unspools from a snapped wooden stake and a marker’s strokes leads to a reunion rooted in handwriting, deafness, and years of missed connections - how did a simple sign become the bridge between them?
In this episode, you will hear the sequence of events that connects a rally, a lost sign, and a son who knew his mother's letters like a voice. The narrative follows the sign's discovery, the photograph in a local paper, and the recognition that challenges an estrangement born from a lifetime of communication barriers - will the recognition turn into contact?
Date: September 15, 2011
Person: Sarah Sheridan
Location: Orchard Street / Delvaine Municipal Services yard
Age: 54
Job: Layout technician at Kellner Graphic Services for 19 years
- The sign was found at 2:10 a.m, on September 15, 2011, by road-grader operator Richard Turner.

8 OCT 2026 · The 32 Unmailed Letters That Reached Him Too Late
A man in a rusted mailbox kept thirty-two sealed letters addressed to the same name for nine years - the outer envelope postmarked August 2010 and bearing a discontinued stamp - until one August morning in 2019 a lineman found them. Who wrote to him every birthday for three decades, why the letters were never mailed, and what changed when the final letter said it would be sent?
In this episode, we tell the story contained in those envelopes and the people whose lives they touched. You will hear how a decision made in 1987 left a blank on an original birth certificate, how thirty-two annual letters sat unread in an abandoned mailbox, and whether the final act of putting them in the post actually closed the distance between two men.
Person: Paul Burke
Person: Tom Ogle
Date: August 9, 2019
Location: Renner Falls, Indiana
Event: Thirty-two sealed letters found in a mailbox after nine years
- The outer envelope was postmarked August 2010 and contained thirty-two smaller sealed envelopes dated to different years of Paul’s life.
- The postal stamp on the outer envelope was a denomination the postal service stopped printing five years before 2019.
- Tom Ogle wrote one letter every year beginning August 1987 for thirty-one consecutive years, plus a final letter in August 2018.
- In 2015 Tom Ogle was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease; letters after that year are shorter and handwriting changes.
- Sandra Ogle, listed as Paul’s biological mother on his original birth certificate, died in 2012 at age forty-four. To listen to this podcast ad-free and access premium episodes, try our subscription with a 14-day free trial at obomedia.com.

7 OCT 2026 · Stranger Finds a Dog Tag With Eight Words: The Dean Hansen Reunion
A metal dog tag threaded through a park bench with a laminated strip reading "DEAN IF YOU FIND THIS PLEASE CALL" stopped a runner cold - the tag was clean, the strip unweathered, and the phone number lacked an area code. Who would leave a military duplicate so deliberately, and why leave a number that only makes sense to someone in a different region?
In this episode, we follow the sequence of discoveries and calls that began when Michelle Jenkins found the tag at bench three in Kessler Park and led Deputy Sandra Hewitt to trace a number to a veteran peer-support line in Spokane, raising the question of how a lost tag from Afghanistan traveled into a Colorado park.
Person: Dean Hansen
Location: Kessler Park, Marvell, Colorado
Date: July 2019 (Tuesday morning at approximately 06:15)
Age: 38
Case: Dog tag with laminated strip reading "DEAN IF YOU FIND THIS PLEASE CALL"
- Michelle Jenkins found the dog tag at bench three while running at approximately 06:15 on a Tuesday morning in July 2019.
- The laminated strip on the chain showed eight words in capital letters and a phone number with no area code.
- Deputy Sandra Hewitt noted the tag face read "HANSEN, D" and blood type "O-positive" and identified it as a military duplicate.
- The phone number resolved to a direct line for Angela Berry at a Spokane veteran peer-support line; Angela was 61 years old and a volunteer coordinator for nine years.
- Angela Berry connected the number to a single four-minute eleven-second call from Marcus Webb placed from a prepaid unregistered phone in Tacoma about a year before the tag was found. 6 OCT 2026 · Meter Reader Finds a Notebook That Saves a Life: The Jennifer Armstrong Case
The smallest object changed everything: a waterproof spiral notebook, damp with two nights of dew and a broken pencil laid like a cross, sat on a concrete step and led a meter reader to a missing teacher eleven days after the official search had been suspended. How did a notebook left as a signal for a helicopter become the one thing that saved Jennifer Armstrong when forty-one searchers, two canine teams, and a helicopter could not?
In this episode, we tell the sequence of events that connects a retired eighth‑grade earth science teacher’s routine, a missed weekly call, a neighbor’s concern, a suspended search, and a meter reader’s discovery; what patterns and mapping gaps produced eleven days of near-misses, and could a single change have altered the outcome?
Person: Jennifer Armstrong
Date: Thursday, June 19
Location: maintenance shed in utility corridor west of Crestfall Ridge, four hundred meters west of search perimeter
Event: official search suspended prior to discovery
Person: Jean Hamilton
- Jennifer Armstrong retired the previous autumn at age sixty-two after thirty-one years teaching eighth-grade earth science.
- The official search involved forty-one people, two canine teams, and a helicopter that made six passes in the first two days.
- Jennifer had a routine call at six every Wednesday with her daughter Meg; the missed call prompted a sheriff report by 11:15 PM the same night.
- The notebook showed four lines and a partial name with two letters at the end and was found after two nights of dew on the morning of June 19.
- The maintenance shed appeared on utility maps but was not included on the trail maps the SAR teams were using, placing it roughly four hundred meters west of the search perimeter.
