It's the latest edition of the show and host T.J. Rives has a special announcement. He's welcoming a new content partner to the "Big Fight Weekend Podcast" and BFW website with one of the most prominent boxing writers/insiders of the last nearly 25 years in Dan Rafael formerly of ESPN and USA Today!
Dan explains why he's excited to join the site as a regular daily contributor to BigFightWeekend.com and also, will be a frequent guest on the BFW podcast, as well as doing some of his own original podcasting content.
Then, the guys also discuss some Heavyweight news of the week with the upcoming Tyson Fury WBC title defense against the ever, pouting and complaining fellow Brit Dillan Whyte and his team. Whyte has refused to promote the battle in any way, but now it's almost time to step in the ring. Dan sorts it out and has great insight and more on his exclusive on when the other Heavyweight title fight with Oleksandr Usyk defending against England's Anthony Joshua that will be later in the Summer?
Then, T.J. and Dan start previewing and predicting the action, including the Gennady Golovkin vs. Ryota Murata World Middleweight title fight early Saturday U.S. time from Japan. Is the now 40 year old Triple G too old to get this done? Or, does he have a great performance still left in him? Also, there's intrigue around unbeaten, California Lightweight contender Ryan Garcia battling Ghana's Emmanuel Tagoe in a non-title main event in San Antonio, TX Saturday night.
Garcia has had a long layoff due to "mental health issues" and an injured hand, but he's back for the first time in 14 months to face the underdog veteran from Africa. Can Tagoe test him?
Finally, the guys also talk the Jr. Middleweight showdown in Vegas, as 6'6'' Sebastian Fundora puts his unbeaten record on the line against former world title challenger Erickson Lubin in a 12 round main event for Showtime. Can "The Towering Inferno" at his abnormal height for a Jr. Middleweight score the win or will Lubin get the seventh straight win of his career after his lone pro defeat? More analysis and predictions forthcoming.
