Great Ujima:
In this video, I explain why setting a good first impression is important, and how to do it. We go into the topic of Ujima, which is a principle that means "collective work and responsibility", but also about building trust and community. I felt like this quote from Malcolm X explains why we need to set a good first impression: "You don't stick a knife in a man's back nine inches, and then pull it out six inches and say you're making progress." That's when you know someone doesn't care about you, or have any type of loyalty towards you. For example, if your boss tells you that you have been doing extremely well at work, but then- 3 months later- tells you that they're moving in another direction. Even if they tell another employee the same thing (using slightly different words), there are going to be 2 employees "starting on square one" because their roles changed dramatically without warning. Anyways- We look into whether or not first impressions actually last with people. If they do last- then how exactly do they last. And finally- How can we set good first impressions with people?
