The volunteer fire brigade (represented by firefighter secretary Doreen White) presented a number of requests/issues to council at the beginning of this meeting.
One issue was that there were certain local roads not cleared of snow this past winter which would hinder access to the Pond for water in case of a fire down the line. In the discussion after the presentation Ned Raymond made a reasonable suggestion of installing water pumps instead of road clearing on the roads that no residents currently reside on but that are critical access points for water in case of a fire for residents on the line. The decision on this issue was deferred.
Another issue raised by the fire department was the need for meeting space for the now 20-25 person monthly firefighting meeting. The firefighter secretary suggested that council could consider building an extra space alongside the current hall but in the discussion after her presentation councillor Ned Raymond suggested revisiting the idea he presented at the last meeting which was to have the town council offices moved to the Holyrood Pond Interpretive Centre and turn the entire fire hall building back to the fire brigade. The discussion on this item is especially interesting and a deferral was made about the item.
