The sun set fast in Santa Barbara—I’ll never forget looking up from my canvas to watch my best friend sing and dance with the music escaping the outdoor system. That should have been the picture I painted—not the heavily traveled street kissing the ocean bathed with hanging palms. I was more in love with her world than the one I tried to create.
