The severity of hypothermia is typically classified into stages:
  1. Mild Hypothermia (32-35°C or 89.6-95°F): Symptoms may include shivering, cold and pale skin, rapid breathing, and difficulty with fine motor skills.
  2. Moderate Hypothermia (28-32°C or 82.4-89.6°F): Shivering may decrease, confusion and drowsiness can set in, muscle coordination may be impaired, and the person may exhibit slurred speech.
  3. Severe Hypothermia (below 28°C or 82.4°F): Shivering may stop, vital signs can become very slow, and the person may lose consciousness. At this stage, the risk of cardiac arrest is significantly increased.
The time it takes for hypothermia to become life-threatening depends on various factors, including environmental conditions, clothing, and the individual's health. In extremely cold conditions, severe hypothermia can develop in a matter of minutes to hours. The specific temperature at which hypothermia becomes life-threatening can vary among individuals.

As a general guideline, a core body temperature below 95°F (35°C) is considered a medical emergency. However, it's crucial to seek medical attention as soon as hypothermia is suspected, regardless of the specific temperature.

In this episode we are diving back into the story to see where things currently stand and what changes might have developed over night and we are taking a look at some of the comments made by family members of the men who passed away.
