Born in 1972, by 1980 Christian Hughes was well on his way to being a drug addict and criminal. What started with shoplifting and alcohol and soon transitioned into identity theft and methamphetamines. In and out of juvenile detention, by age 19 he caught his first charges: four 1-15 year sentences for credit card theft. R&O is a scary place, but he soon acclimated to prison life, joined a gang, found heroine readily available, and jumped right in. Prison life really wasn’t so bad. 14 years left him a career criminal until at last a high speed chase got him arrested in summit county and it changed his life. Listen in as he came to realize that he didn’t want this life anymore. Hear how his last stint in prison helped him change and become the real Chris Hughes, including how he walked away from drugs and the gang life, and through the help of some vocational programs in prison, found himself back on the streets with a completely new direction. His life of fall to redemption is compelling and powerful.

“‘Look dude, I’m bettering myself. I wanna get out and I wanna be with my mom. I wanna be with my family.’ I got to the point where I just blew it off and did my thing. It’s not worth it man, these guys are trying to send me to go stand up for their dope debts, go stand up for all this, and it’s like, this isn’t my life. Why would I wanna throw away my life for somebody else getting high and owing money?” 43:58
