You’re listening to the podcast Paudio, and I’m your host, Gail Nobles. Today, I want to talk to you about a 1943 Superman cartoon titled Jungle Drums. It is a very good Technicolor short film based upon the DC Comics character of Superman. Produced by Famous Studios, the cartoon was originally released to theaters by Paramount Pictures on March 26, 1943.
The cartoon takes place deep in the African Jungle where a tribe of warriors are having a celebration. Their leader is a tall man in a white cloak. Secretly he’s a commander, and he’s a bad guy.
Lois Lane is captured. She was the crew’s only survivor on a wrecked plane, and a wounded Lieutenant hands her his secret documents and tells her to destroy them. Then he dies. Lois hides them under a rock and that’s when she is captured. The commander orders the warriors to burn her at the stake.
Meanwhile, Clark Kent and another pilot flies out to meet Lois. And now here is the animation Jungle Drums ….
