show moreIt was commemorated in 1924 and is named for the British monarch King George V (reign: 1910-1936) — and specifically to commemorate the seventh anniversary of the British conquest of Jerusalem (prior to the advent of the British Mandate the street, city, and country were formally part of the Ottoman Empire).
Today it is a busy pedestrian and vehicular street that is also home to the building that housed the first Knesset as well as the office buildings of the KKL.
