After last weeks insightful and entertaining chat with Steve Hughes, Olivia Reppas continues her informative look into the life of an Australian icon in the concluding chapter below...
Steve Hughes is a man of many talents and faces.
Essentially a heavy metal musician, Hughes has also dabbled successfully in comedy, with his unabashed honesty standing him apart from most other artists that hide behind some form of façade every time they venture into the public spotlight.
Having started his musical career in Slaughter Lord, Hughes picked up the sticks for Aussie legends Mortal Sin before joining Nazxul then Presto.
At the turn of the century, Hughes packed up and moved to Ireland to begin his stand up career. While in Dublin, the opportunity to play with Ireland’s biggest metal export, Primordial, lit the creative fires in Steve and ultimately led to the creation of Eternum some 17 years later.
After spending the best part of two decades dominating the stand-up comedy circuit Hughes earlier this month returned to metal, releasing his solo album Eternum- his first new music in 22 years - and reinforcing his status as a musician of notoriety and repute.
