Since their inception in 2011, Californian death metal machine Skeletal Remains have almost made it their personal mission to fly the flag for old school metal.
Heavily influenced by late 1980s and early 1990s outfits like Pestilence, early Gorguts, Death, Obituary and Morbid Angel, Skeletal Remains have built themselves a reputation for delivering a massive sonic wave of destruction with each outing and have now set their sights on Australia!
Kicking off at Brisbane's Mansfield Tavern on November 10, Skeletal Remains plan to weave their way around the country before finishing with a New Zealand assault that promises to remind concert goers just how good death metal can be.
HEAVY caught up with vocalist/guitarist Chris Monroy not long after the band touched down in Brisbane to find out more.
"We just got in this morning, so we're a bit jet lagged," he laughed, "but we're fucken stoked to be here and stoked to start the tour tomorrow. We can't wait to see everybody and everybody's reaction to the shows. I really hope that everyone's ready, because we sure are ready as fuck. We've been wanting to do this for a long time so we're really excited to finally be here."
As mentioned, this will be Skeletal Remains first trip Down Under, so we ask Monroy what fans can expect from the shows.
"We're pretty straight forward, nothing crazy," he offered. "We're straight up, in your face death metal so if that's what you like I think you will be highly satisfied (laughs). We're just super fucken stoked to finally be here."
In the full interview, Chris talks more about the tour and what to expect, planning a tour to a country for the first time, the early days of Skeletal Remains and where they fit in, refining the band's sound and taking influences, making that sound your own, moving to a major label and what changes that brought, their US tour with Morbid Angel next year and more.
