Story Transcript:
Ga: Lá breá gréine a bhí ann agus bhí Aoife agus Cian ar siúlóid cois farraige ag na hAillte i gContae an Chláir.
En: It was a beautiful sunny day, and Aoife and Cian were walking by the sea at the Cliffs in County Clare.
Ga: Bhí an t-aer úr agus glan, agus bhí torann an Atlantaigh ag briseadh síos faoina gcosa.
En: The air was fresh and clean, and the sound of the Atlantic was crashing beneath their feet.
Ga: "Tá sé go hálainn anseo, nach bhfuil?" arsa Aoife, ag meangadh go geal le Cian.
En: "It's beautiful here, isn't it?" said Aoife, smiling brightly at Cian.
Ga: "Tá sé cinnte," a d'fhreagair Cian, a shúile gorma ag lonrú le háthas.
En: "It sure is," Cian replied, his blue eyes sparkling with joy.
Ga: "Ach coinnigh do shúil amach don eilit agus na caoirigh, tá siad thart anseo!"
En: "But keep an eye out for the seagulls and the sheep, they're around here!"
Ga: Lean siad ar aghaidh ag siúl go mall, ag baint taitnimh as an gcuideachta a bhí acu dá chéile.
En: They continued to walk slowly, enjoying each other's company.
Ga: Ach, tharla rud éigin greannmhar.
En: But then something funny happened.
Ga: D'fhan Cian siar chun grianghraf a ghlacadh agus chuaigh Aoife ar aghaidh léi, gan mothú gur fhág sí é taobh thiar di.
En: Cian stayed back to take a picture, and Aoife walked ahead, unaware that she left him behind.
Ga: Chonaic sí anuas ar cairde beaga clúmhacha nach iad, caora ag ithe féar go sámh.
En: She looked down and saw small fluffy friends, sheep peacefully grazing.
Ga: Cheap sí gurb é Cian a bhí inti féin agus thosaigh sí ag labhairt leis… an chaora!
En: She thought it was Cian and started talking to... the sheep!
Ga: "A Cian, nach breá an lá atá ann?" arsa Aoife, ag féachaint ar an gcaora agus í ag smaoineamh go raibh sé i bhfolach.
En: "Oh Cian, what a lovely day, isn't it?" said Aoife, looking at the sheep and thinking it was hiding.
Ga: D'fhéach an chaora suas agus mheáigh sí go ciúin. "Meeeeh," a dúirt sí, ag breathnú ar Aoife le súile móra, soineanta.
En: The sheep looked up and bleated softly. "Meeeeh," it said, looking at Aoife with big, gentle eyes.
Ga: Aoife, nár thuig go fóill gurbh í caora a bhí ina láthair seachas Cian, lean ar aghaidh.
En: Still not realizing that it was a sheep she was talking to, Aoife continued.
Ga: "Táim ag súil go mór leis an bpícnic. An bhfuil ocras ort, a Chian?"
En: "I'm really looking forward to the picnic. Are you hungry, Cian?"
Ga: "Meeeeh," a dúirt an chaora arís, ag clúdach a súil le fionnadh.
En: "Meeeeh," said the sheep again, covering its eyes with a bleat.
Ga: Ansin, chuala Aoife gáire taobh thiar di agus d'iompaigh sí timpeall.
En: Then, Aoife heard laughter behind her and turned around.
Ga: Bhí Cian ina sheasamh ansin, a aghaidh dearg le gáire.
En: Cian was standing there, his face red with laughter.
Ga: "A Aoife, is tú atá ag caint le caora!" a dúirt sé, ag tarraingt a chuid fón chun pictiúr a ghlacadh den radharc aisteach.
En: "Aoife, you're talking to a sheep!" he said, pulling out his phone to take a picture of the strange sight.
Ga: Dhearg Aoife le náire ach níorbh fhada gur thit sí i bpoll gáire freisin.
En: Aoife blushed with embarrassment, but it wasn't long before she fell into a fit of giggles as well.
Ga: "Ó, a Chian, ní fhaca mé riamh a leithéid," a dúirt sí agus a gáire agus a náire ag measctha.
En: "Oh Cian, I've never seen anything like it," she said, her laughter and embarrassment mixed.
Ga: Rinne siad greim a fháil ar a bpícnic agus roinn siad gáire agus bia lena chéile.
En: They grabbed their picnic and shared laughter and food.
Ga: Bhí a fhios acu go mbeadh scéalta acu le hinsint faoin lá seo go deo, agus an uair a labhair Aoife le caora ag fáltaí céadtaíle na hAillte Móire.
En: They knew they would have stories to tell about this day forever, and when Aoife next sees a sheep, she makes sure Cian is standing by her before starting a conversation.
Ga: Agus ón lá sin amach, nuair a chonaiceann Aoife caora, déanann sí cinnte go bhfuil Cian ag seasamh taobh léi sula dtosaíonn sí ar chomhrá.
En: And from that day on, when Aoife sees a sheep, she makes sure Cian is standing by her before starting a conversation.
