Description
Happy December! Can you believe it? The 12th month of 2020 is finally here. Just like last month, we're beginning a new one during the time of a full moon....
show moreInstead it almost feels like 2 steps forward, 1 step back. For me personally, I've been struggling with a lot of the things I feel obligated to be better at, to be more focused on, or to make a bigger priority in my life. Things like going to bed earlier, eating better, moving my body more- somehow I just can't seem to juggle all of these the "right" way.
Or at least that's what the dialogue in my head's first reaction is- that self critical, demanding voice that pushes for more, especially when things start to slow down.
That is where self compassion becomes so important. How can we be more gentle with ourselves, and really force ourselves to consciously think and recall on how far we've come, the progress we're making towards our goals, and to bring a bigger context of where we're currently at in our lives into play. It's not helpful when we compare ourselves to past versions of ourselves, or future idealizations that may never be fully accurate. There's something important about loving ourselves now, and letting our growth come from a place of compassion instead of fear of not being good enough.
