Story Transcript:

En: On the island of the city, at Plaça de Catalunya, there was a charming café with outdoor tables.

En: The summer sun shone on the tiles, and tourists and locals hurried in their preparations for the Festival of Sant Joan.

En: Marina and Pau sat at one of the tables, enjoying a pleasant breakfast.

Ca: Marina era arquitecta.
En: Marina was an architect.

Ca: Li agradava la precisió i l'ordre.
En: She liked precision and order.

En: She had been afraid of birds since she was a child.

En: Pau, on the other hand, was the complete opposite.

Ca: Estimava la natura i els ocells.
En: He loved nature and birds.

Ca: Les seves diferències els feien bons amics.
En: Their differences made them good friends.

En: "What a beautiful morning!" Pau said, looking at the blue sky.

En: "Yes, it is," Marina nodded while taking a sip of her coffee.

Ca: Davant d'ells, hi havia dos croissants, ben daurats i apetitosos.
En: In front of them were two croissants, golden and appetizing.

En: Suddenly, a pigeon landed on the table.

En: It flapped its wings and, before Marina could react, the pigeon grabbed a croissant and flew away.

Ca: "Oh no! El meu esmorzar!" va cridar Marina, desesperada.
En: "Oh no! My breakfast!" Marina cried out, desperate.

Ca: Pau va riure.
En: Pau laughed.

Ca: "No t'amoïnis, Marina. Només un colom. És el dia de Sant Joan! Amem divertir-nos."
En: "Don’t worry, Marina. It’s just a pigeon. It’s Sant Joan’s day! Let's have some fun."

Ca: Marina, però, estava alarmada.
En: Marina, however, was alarmed.

En: Her eyes followed the pigeon’s movement.

Ca: La seva por la paralitzava.
En: Her fear paralyzed her.

En: "Marina, breathe deeply," Pau said, putting his hand on her shoulder.

Ca: "Podem comprar un altre croissant. Gaudim del moment."
En: "We can buy another croissant. Let’s enjoy the moment."

Ca: Marina estava indecisa.
En: Marina was undecided.

En: Should she leave quickly or face the situation?

Ca: Pau li va somriure, encoratjant-la.
En: Pau smiled at her encouragingly.

Ca: "Els coloms no fan mal. Mira’l als ulls."
En: "Pigeons don’t hurt. Look it in the eyes."

Ca: Així ho va fer.
En: She did so.

En: Marina gathered all her courage and stood up.

En: She followed the pigeon to another table and gently grabbed it with her hands.

Ca: El va mirar.
En: She looked at it.

En: The pigeon was calm in her hands.

Ca: "No fas por, oi?" va murmurar Marina.
En: "You’re not scary, are you?" Marina murmured.

Ca: Pau va aplaudir.
En: Pau clapped.

Ca: "Bona feina, Marina! Ho has fet genial!"
En: "Well done, Marina! You did great!"

En: They turned back to the table and saw the waiter bringing more croissants.

En: "Compliments of the house," the waiter smiled.

Ca: Es van asseure de nou.
En: They sat back down.

En: "Maybe you should embrace spontaneity more, like the pigeon," Pau laughed.

En: "Maybe so," Marina agreed with a smile.

En: With the blue sky above them and the sun shining, they decided to go together to the Sant Joan festival that night.

En: They laughed and enjoyed the day, Marina a little less fearful, a bit freer, and Pau happy to see his friend embrace a bit more spontaneity.
