Thanks to bestselling books such as Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code and blockbuster films like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, in which they are depicted as heroic guardians of the Holy Grail, the Knights Templar of the Middle Ages have long captivated the public's imagination. The Knights Templar were a Christian military order formed in the 12th Century, partly to help defend the Holy Land from Muslim conquest, or so it has long been accepted by scholars. Author and historian Dr. Eugene Stovall believes, however, that there is evidence to support the possibility that the Knights Templar existed much earlier than is popularly believed. In fact, he says the Knights may have been active as early as the 1st Century A.D., at the time of the First Jewish- Roman War and the Fall of the Temple in Jerusalem. On your show, Dr. Stovall will share fascinating facts about these often-misunderstood soldiers of fortune, along with insight into what motivated their religious fanaticism.
