The war between the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) is one of the most intense and brutal conflicts in Mexico's criminal history. It began in the early 2010s when CJNG, under the leadership of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho," rapidly expanded its power and influence, challenging the long-standing dominance of the Sinaloa Cartel.

The Sinaloa Cartel, traditionally the most powerful and influential drug trafficking organization in Mexico, was led by Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán and Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada. The cartel had established a vast network of smuggling routes and alliances, controlling much of the drug trade in Mexico and beyond. However, following the arrest and extradition of El Chapo in 2017, the cartel faced internal strife and a leadership vacuum, which CJNG sought to exploit.

CJNG, known for its extreme brutality and willingness to confront both rival cartels and the Mexican state, aggressively expanded into territories traditionally controlled by the Sinaloa Cartel. Key battlegrounds included the states of Jalisco, Michoacán, Colima, and Baja California, where CJNG sought to seize control of lucrative drug smuggling routes and ports.

The conflict has led to tens of thousands of deaths, with entire communities caught in the crossfire. Both cartels have employed brutal tactics, including mass killings, public beheadings, and attacks on law enforcement. The violence has had a devastating impact on Mexican society, with widespread fear, corruption, and economic disruption.

Despite significant losses on both sides, including the deaths and arrests of key leaders, the war between CJNG and the Sinaloa Cartel continues. The Mexican government's efforts to quell the violence have largely been unsuccessful, and the conflict shows no signs of abating. The war has not only reshaped Mexico's criminal landscape but also had far-reaching implications for global drug trafficking and security.
