Sydney high energy, high personality, and catchy as hell outfit RedHook have finally released their debut EP Bad Decisions upon the world, and believe me when I tell you it has been worth the wait!

After plying their trade across the country for over four years and refining their music with their uniquely RedHook tidings, the band have settled on a collection of 6 songs that best capture their vivacious spirit, albeit with one surprise twist that you are going to have to listen to the EP to discover.

Vocalist Emmy Mack sat down with HEAVY earlier this week to talk about the EP and, amongst other things, forbidden fruit.

"It's been incredible,” she enthused of the response to the EP despite it only coming out earlier that day. “It's blown me away. I'm a bit overwhelmed actually, I had to put my phone down because it's giving me anxiety (laughs). No, it's been incredible, seriously. The support and the response has made my little emo heart so fucken full. It means so much. I haven't seen anybody trashing us yet so we'll see (laughs).”

If you have seen RedHook live you will attest to the quality of their performance, but often that on-stage poise and zest can somehow go missing in the translation to disk.

Not so with this outfit.

Without being an actual live album, Bad Decisions still captures the live intensity of the band with an infectious and upbeat mixture of songs that only hints at the possibilities for the future of RedHook.

"What was important to us musically was I think it's important that every song has its own character and its own story and personality. I think anybody who listens to our music and is familiar with who we probably know that no two RedHook songs are quite the same and that's something that we always wanna strive for and this EP is very much that. It's quite a mixed bag. I think it strikes that balance between... every song has that thing that makes RedHook RedHook while being quite differentiated from each other. It's a nice little box of chocolates; something for everybody."

In the full interview, Emmy talks about the EP in greater detail, discusses their music and the labels placed upon it, runs through the personal nature of some of the lyrics and how writing and performing these songs helps in the healing process, the nature of self-analysis and how it can lead to darker times, their upcoming tour and black apples.
