Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, there lived a couple who longed for a child. After many years of waiting, the wife became pregnant. Next to their home was a magical garden, filled with the most beautiful and rare herbs. The wife craved a special herb called Rapunzel, which grew in that garden. The couple’s neighbor, an old witch, owned this garden.
Desperate, the husband snuck into the garden to steal some of the Rapunzel. When the witch caught him, she agreed to let him take the herb, but only if they would give her their child once she was born. The husband, fearing for his wife’s health, agreed.
When the baby girl was born, the witch took her away and named her Rapunzel. She locked her in a tall tower in the forest, with no doors or stairs, only a small window at the top. As Rapunzel grew, her long, golden hair flowed down the tower, reaching the ground.
