Story Transcript:

Fr: Salut, je suis Pierre ! J'ai une drôle d'histoire à vous raître. Je dois le raconter avant que mes joues ne perdent leur rouge de la honte. C'était un mercredi, à Paris.
En: Hello, I'm Pierre! I have a funny story to tell you. I have to tell it before my cheeks lose their redness from embarrassment. It was a Wednesday, in Paris.

Fr: Je courais vers mon travail ce jour-là. Pierre, c'est moi, celui qui a fait du vélo sur le marché. Oui, oui, c'était une erreur. Incroyable, hein ?
En: I was rushing to work that day. Pierre, that's me, the one who rode a bike in the market. Yes, yes, it was a mistake. Unbelievable, huh?

Fr: J'étais pressé. J'ai pris mon vélo et je suis parti. J'ai quitté mon petit appartement à Montmartre. Je n'ai pas pris de café. Grosse erreur. Mon esprit était encore endormi.
En: I was in a hurry. I took my bike and left. I left my little apartment in Montmartre. I didn't have any coffee. Big mistake. My mind was still half asleep.

Fr: La Seine brillait au soleil. Les gens souriaient. C'était un beau matin. Mais je ne l'ai pas remarqué. J'étais concentré sur la route devant moi.
En: The Seine was sparkling in the sun. People were smiling. It was a beautiful morning. But I didn't notice. I was focused on the road ahead.

Fr: Soudain, un oiseau a volé devant moi. J'ai tourné à gauche. Oups ! J'étais dans un marché. Des fruits et des légumes partout. Des gens qui crient. C'était le marché de la rue Mouffetard, plein de couleur et de vie.
En: Suddenly, a bird flew in front of me. I turned left. Oops! I was in a market. Fruits and vegetables everywhere. People shouting. It was the Rue Mouffetard market, full of color and life.

Fr: Je ne pouvais pas arrêter. Mon vélo avait sa propre volonté. J'ai renversé des paniers. Pommes, oranges et poires se sont répandues sur le sol. Oh, le gâchis!
En: I couldn't stop. My bike had a mind of its own. I knocked over baskets. Apples, oranges, and pears scattered on the ground. Oh, what a mess!

Fr: Les gens ont commencé à rire. Ils ont dû penser que j'étais un clown. Un poissonnier a crié "Montre-nous encore une fois!". Femme en chapeau rouge a ri si fort, sa baguette de pain est tombée de son sac. Très Parisien, non ?
En: People started laughing. They must have thought I was a clown. A fishmonger shouted, "Show us once more!" A woman in a red hat laughed so hard, her baguette fell out of her bag. Very Parisian, isn't it?

Fr: J'ai finalement arrêté mon vélo. Je me suis levé, rouge comme une tomate. Et j'ai vu Lucienne. Elle aussi riait, mais elle m'a aidé à ramasser les fruits. Je la connais depuis l'école. Elle est toujours gentille.
En: I finally stopped my bike. I stood up, red as a tomato. And I saw Lucienne. She was also laughing, but she helped me pick up the fruits. I've known her since school. She's always kind.

Fr: Lucienne a dit, "Pierre, tu as fait ma journée."
En: Lucienne said, "Pierre, you made my day."

Fr: J'étais désolé. Mais c'était aussi un peu drôle. En même temps, j'étais heureux de la rendre heureuse. Nous avons nettoyé le marché ensemble. Je lui ai promis de payer les paniers renversés.
En: I was sorry. But it was also a bit funny. At the same time, I was happy to make her happy. We cleaned up the market together. I promised her to pay for the knocked over baskets.

Fr: J'ai fait un sourire à Lucienne, elle a ri de nouveau.
En: I smiled at Lucienne, she laughed again.

Fr: Voilà, c'était mon mercredi à Paris. Je n'ai pas été en retard pour le travail. Et j'ai rendu les gens heureux, en quelque sorte. Même si c'était par accident. Je rirai de cette histoire plus tard, c'est sûr. Et la prochaine fois, je prendrai mon café avant de sortir.
