Today we have with us Dr. Jeremy Boden who is an associate professor of Family Science at Utah Valley University where he teaches courses in marriage and relationships, human sexuality, family dynamics, and couples therapy in the Marriage and Family Therapy graduate program. He’s also a licensed marriage and family therapist and maintains a small private practice in Provo, Utah. We discuss shame and guilt in sexuality and the differences between the two, shame being bad and guilt being good. The language we use around people or unhealthy/toxic metaphors we use about sexuality can be damaging to how people view this part of themselves. Everyone has their own views that they develop from a young age and it’s healthy to really take a look at these views/beliefs and challenge them to see if they really are what we should believe.
