Posing as "Jaybird," a violent gunrunner, he gained the trust of the gang, even staging a fake murder to cement his criminal persona. While the operation led to multiple arrests and was hailed as a major law enforcement victory, it came at a personal cost for Dobyns. After the Hells Angels discovered his identity, he and his family faced death threats, culminating in an arson attack on their home. Feeling abandoned by the ATF, Dobyns sued the agency for failing to protect him, winning the case in 2014.
