Since a 2015 statewide audit revealed that Oregon had a backlog of thousands of untested sexual assault evidence kits, state agencies have been working to correct the issue. While legislative reforms have mandated the testing of most kits, and grant funding has allowed for testing progress in years-old cases, the number of newer untested kits is building back up. We get a progress report from Multnomah County’s Deputy District Attorney Amity Girt and the Oregon Attorney General’s Sexual Assault Task Force executive director Michele Roland-Schwartz.
