Vernon Forrest, aged 38, lost his life following an attempted robbery involving three assailants. A former homicide detective remarked that the shooter felt it was inappropriate for Vernon Forrest to resist the robbery.

On July 25, 2009, the remains of a young Black male were discovered at approximately 11 p.m. close to an apartment complex situated in the Mechanicsville area of Atlanta.

At the location, where emergency medical technicians declared the victim deceased, Keith Meadows, a former commander with the Atlanta Police Department, identified the individual who had been shot.

Who was Vernon Forrest?

Hailing from Augusta, Georgia, Forrest emerged from modest origins. He was a young man who discovered a passion for boxing, remarked Atlanta television journalist Shaunya Chavis in an interview for The Real Murders of Atlanta.
