November 13: A Daily Vote.

Psalm 60:9-12:
Who will bring me to the strong city? Who will lead me to Edom? Is it not You, O God, who cast us off? And You, O God, who did not go out with our armies? Give us help from trouble, for the help of man is useless. Through God we will do valiantly, for it is He who shall tread down our enemies.

Psalm 61:1-8:
Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings. Selah
For You, O God, have heard my vows; You have given me the heritage of those who fear Your name. You will prolong the king’s life, his years as many generations. He shall abide before God forever. Oh, prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him! So I will sing praise to Your name forever, that I may daily perform my vows.


Psalm 60 is a cry in the midst of battle. Apparently this psalm was written when David confronted the Edomites in a place called the Valley of Salt.
This psalm is very similar to Psalm 108; when we get to read it, we will study it further.
Psalm 61 is a very beautiful psalm because, although at the beginning the psalmist was making a cry in the difficult moment in which he was, his words are very precise and full of faith and trust in the Lord.
In verse 2 he asked the Lord to take him to a high place, and that place is God Himself because the psalmist later said: "You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy.”
When we studied Psalm 48, the psalmist wrote the psalm also making that reference to God as a tower and a fortress, as a safe place for the people who enter the fortress.
In verse 4 he asked the Lord to keep him and protect him because he wants to be in the tabernacle of God, that is, in the presence of God forever, because David knew that there was the best place to find safety, and that it is like a bird that protects its young when he is under the shadow of the Lord's wings.

In this prayer we see a David going through needs but very confident in the Lord, without using words of despair as we have read in other psalms but of knowledge about who he trusts and what is His power to listen and answer the prayer.
That is why in the end the psalmist made a surprising statement, and that is that he will sing songs to the Lord every day because this represented the vows that he had made to the Lord.
A vow is a promise that one makes to God; it is something that one does as a sacrifice and as an offering to the Lord.
In those ancient times, a vow was something valuable that someone brought to the Lord and offered it in the temple and made it available to the priest. In this case, David not only gave vows and offerings of animals and precious metals to the Lord, he also brought the Lord a song every day to exalt and glorify Him.
David knew a lot about music. David had developed a very beautiful talent which was composing songs, creating the melody and playing them with instruments. That talent and gift became his daily vow to the Lord if he would help him defeat enemies.

I hope these words of the psalmist can inspire us to make a daily vow to the Lord. It can be reading a portion of the Bible every day, or taking a specific time to dedicate it to God to worship him, either in the morning, afternoon or evening. Think of something you like to do and put it at the service of God's hands as a continuous vow for Him. Don't settle for just praising Him the times we go to church where we only bring offerings on Sundays and that's it.
No! Give something to the Lord that is every day and so the Lord receives what you are going to offer Him as a vow of gratitude for His blessings and His protection.

Consider this:
What actions are you doing or will you take as a daily vow to the Lord?

Noviembre 13: Un Voto Diario.

Salmos 60:9‭-‬12 RVA2015:
¿Quién me guiará a la ciudad fortificada? ¿Quién me conducirá hasta Edom? ¿No serás tú, oh Dios, que nos habías desechado y que ya no sales, oh Dios, con nuestros ejércitos? Danos socorro ante el enemigo pues vana es la liberación que da el hombre. Con Dios haremos proezas, y él aplastará a nuestros enemigos.
Salmos 61:1‭-‬8 RVA2015:
Escucha, oh Dios, mi clamor; atiende a mi oración. Desde el extremo de la tierra clamaré a ti cuando mi corazón desmaye. Llévame a la roca que es más alta que yo porque tú me has sido refugio y torre fortificada delante del enemigo. Que yo habite en tu tabernáculo para siempre y me refugie al amparo de tus alas. Selah
Pues tú, oh Dios, has oído mis votos; has dado heredad a los que temen tu nombre. Días sobre días añadirás al rey; sus años serán como generación tras generación. Estará para siempre delante de Dios; designa la misericordia y la verdad para que lo guarden. Entonces cantaré salmos a tu nombre para siempre, para pagar mis votos día tras día.


El salmo 60 es un clamor en medio de la batalla. Al parecer este salmo fue escrito cuando David confrontó a los edomitas en un lugar denominado el Valle de la Sal.
Este salmo es muy parecido al salmo 108; cuando lleguemos a leerlo, vamos a estudiarlo más a fondo.
El salmo 61 es un salmo muy bonito porque, aunque al principio el salmista estaba haciendo un clamor en el momento difícil en que se encontraba, sus palabras son muy precisas y llenas de fe y confianza en el Señor.
En el verso 2 le pidió al Señor que lo lleve a un lugar alto, y ese lugar es el mismo Dios porque el salmista dijo después: "Tú me has sido refugio y torre fortificada delante del enemigo."
Cuando estudiamos el salmo 48, el salmista escribió el salmo haciendo también esa referencia de Dios como torre y fortaleza, como un lugar seguro para los pobladores que entran a la fortaleza.
En el verso 4 le pidió al Señor que lo guarde y lo proteja porque él quiere estar en el tabernáculo de Dios, o sea delante de la presencia de Dios para siempre, pues David sabía que allí era el mejor lugar para encontrar seguridad, y que es como un ave que protege a sus polluelos cuando está bajo la sombra de las alas del Señor.

En esta oración vemos a un David pasando por necesidades pero muy confiado en el Señor, sin usar palabras de desesperación como lo hemos leído en otros salmos sino de conocimiento sobre en quién confía y cuál es su poder para escuchar y responder la oración.
Por eso al final el salmista hizo una declaración sorprendente, y es que él cantará canciones al Señor todos los días porque esto representaba los votos que él había hecho al Señor.
Un voto es una promesa que uno hace a Dios; es algo que uno hace como un sacrificio y como una ofrenda al Señor.
En esos tiempos antiguos, un voto era algo valioso que alguien traía al Señor y lo ofrecía en el templo y lo ponía a la disposición del sacerdote. En este caso, David no solamente le daba votos y ofrendas de animales y de metales preciosos al Señor, también le traía al Señor todos los días una canción para exaltarlo y glorificarlo.
David sabía mucho sobre música. David había desarrollado un talento muy hermoso que era componer canciones, creando la melodía y tocarlas con instrumentos. Ese talento y ese don se convirtió en el voto diario que él le hacía al Señor si lo ayudaba a vencer a los enemigos.

Espero que estas palabras del salmista puedan inspirarnos a realizar un voto diario al Señor. Puede ser leyendo una porción de la Biblia todos los días, o que saques un tiempo en específico para dedicárselo a Dios para adorarlo, ya sea en la mañana, tarde o noche. Piensa en algo que te guste hacer y ponlo al servicio de las manos de Dios como un voto continuo para Él. No te conformes solo con darle la alabanza las veces que vamos a la iglesia donde solamente traemos ofrendas los domingos y ya.
¡No! Dale algo al Señor que sea todos los días y así el Señor reciba eso que vas a ofrecerle como un voto de agradecimiento por sus bendiciones y su protección.

¿Qué acciones estás haciendo o vas a hacer como un voto diario para el Señor?
