Once as fundamental to Central and South American diets as corn and beans, amaranth virtually disappeared after the Spanish banned it.
In an attempt to exercise violent control and oppression, the Spanish banned amaranth and imposed cruel punishments on the Aztecs for growing or saving amaranth seeds. But amaranth didn't entirely disappear. For generations, it became the best kept secret in Mesoamerica.
We are reborn into a perfect inheritance that can never perish, never be defiled, and never diminish. It is promised and preserved forever in the heavenly realm for you!
1 Peter 1: 4
In the Bible, 1 Peter 5:4 says, "And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away". This verse is part of Peter's instructions to the elders of local churches, where he has already written that Christ's glory will be revealed to everyone. Peter likely has in mind the crowns given to champion athletes during his time, which would fade as the leaves died.
