This week's guest Alia Volz is the author of the new book "Home Baked - My Mom, Marijuana, and the Stoning of San Francisco." Alia’s mother Meridy was known to countless people around the Bay City during the 1970’s as “the Brownie Lady.” Meridy eventually ran the largest underground pot brownie business of the time. Sticky Fingers Brownies started out as a great way to make money... and ended up being an essential medical supply for gay men in San Francisco during the AIDS epidemic.
An account of dozens of people’s memories, Volz’s book is a valuable history lesson about the many unsung heroes who got us to this era of semi-legalization - where marijuana is recognized as a medicine in 33 states, and considered an “essential business” during a pandemic.
