Commissioned poems and short stories about National Trust houses’ connections to the British Empire. The creative pieces you will hear were produced with the guidance of 14 Colonial Countryside historians.
The Colonial Countryside project commissioned 10 authors, whose pieces will be published by Peepal Tree Press in Spring 2022. This illustrated book will also contain short historical commentaries and a photo essay by the project’s commissioned photographer, Ingrid Pollard.

is a writer of novels and short stories. Her debut novel ‘The Things We Thought We Knew’ (Black Swan) was released in 2017 when she was named an ‘Observer New Face of Fiction’. Her second novel ‘How to Find Home’ (Black Swan) was chosen as a BBC Radio 4 ‘Book at Bedtime’. She leads creative writing workshops at De Montfort University- Mahsuda tells Kevin Ncube [Project Manager @ColonialCountr1] about her experience of working on her colonial countryside commission after reading her piece Waste Not, Want Not ….
